I guess there is no way but the subject was brought up on another thread and I felt it deserved its own thread...so here it goes....I go to DL ALOT!!! and every stinking time I go I end up with stomach problems...uh the backed up kind:rolleyes1 ...someone mentioned that one needed to drink alot of water to avoid that but I feel like I drink alot of water while Im there...other than coffee in the am and the occasional soda here and there, I usually only drink water...so how much is enough water???????

Generally, while at the parks we don't eat healthy. Our bodies aren't getting the fruits, veggies and roughage that we need.

Try snacking on more popcorn (which contains a surprising amount of fiber) as well as consciously eating more salads and/or fruit. Staying hydrated will help as well!

popcorn::

From CNN Health http://edition.cnn.com/HEALTH/library/NU/00283.html in a nutshell around 2 litres per day for average activity for an average person. More if you are taller/heavier than average and if it is hot etc.

The water will help soften the impact (if you know what i mean!!!) and keep your joints lubricated. Your skin will look great too with enough water and rest. Spread out over time is better than one setting.

Hmm....maybe you're not eating things that are according to your blood type. I know someone who used to have stomach problems a lot, so she bought a book on blood types and it tells you about the things that you should eat and what you should stay away from. She started to follow it and it worked. The only thing is, is that you have to disclipline yourself to do it which would be hard for me to do. *Just an idea*

I don't know what we do on vacation, but anytime we travel (DL or otherwise) we tend to have issues. We have decided it is not being on a "routine" that messes up our system. (I'm starting to sound like my grandmother used to - I'm too young for that! :lmao:) Anyway, we've started buying fiber supplements for travel. We get the generic Wal-Mart/Target brand. We take a minimal dose during the day and that keeps us "enjoying our travels." I don't want to recommend pills over eating right, but even if we eat okay, we still can have issues. Try the fiber - it'll make you feel great! :rotfl2:

And P.S. if you are already HAVING issues (can't prevent with the fiber) our doctor friend suggested stool softeners - they help get things "rolling". :rolleyes1

Do I sound like the queen of poop problems or what?

The above suggestions are great; staying extra hydrated is helpful as well as really making sure you are eating fruits and veggies. If you like dried plums (ok, we'll just say it, PRUNES) you could take along a bag of those bite-sized ones and eat just 5-6 a day, that would help.

That said, it is a known fact that when traveling, many peoples' bodies react to the stress by slowing down digestive processes. You know, just in case you don't know where the next meal is coming from, so your gut can squeeze every last bit of nutrition out of your food. Weird leftover biological reaction to the hunter/gatherer days. Pregnancy does something similar, as many of you moms out there have experienced!

The only bad thing is that if you over do the fruit, veggie and prune thing, or if you get a burrito from Rancho de Zocalo that sat under the heat lamps too long, you could wind up with the opposite problem. Balance is key, eh?:thumbsup2

Ummm, I'm just gonna throw this out there....
I have some problems, too that I have credited to a couple of things. One, I do not eat as good in the parks as at home. My diet is fairly regimented and does not include bacon & eggs, churros, corn dogs, etc. Yes, I drink more water, but get five times the exercise with all that walking and need even more water! I think the excitement of a trip also plays a factor, you know, "wound up" a bit. And lastly, I am not at home, in my own bathroom, doing my usual routine. I am in a strange place, on a strange toilet, people are merely feet away in the next room, I am excited to get to the parks, hoping the line for Nemo isn't too bad. I don't know, I think it makes it harder to go regularly. And "in" the parks, even if I feel the urge, no way do I go in public unless it's an emergency! Maybe TMI, but that's what I think. Anyway Lynn, I am right there with you girl!.

Yeesh, I have a problem where I'm 'off schedule' the other way around. I take Immodium AD, the food and odd schedule plays games with my system. The rest of the family takes Benefiber once a day and they don't have a problem - it makes you kind of gassy so they they take it at night.

Why do I feel this is TMI?:rolleyes1

I never go to the parks without TUMS! I am going tomorrow and have them packed already! I agree with everyone else: not your regular eating, sleeping, or "going" routines is probably the cause. And we all have to admit that we probably don't sleep very well the night before our trips (even if it's just one day).

Coffee is a natural stimulant of the bowels, so keep that coming. I would lay off the soda, and sugar and chocolate are both stoppages. Maybe drink some prune juice before you go?? That always helps my toddler when he's stopped up :)

It sounds like you're not alone, my friend. :rotfl:

Yeah, what she said! and public restrooms and all that! :lmao:

Aren't we a neurotic bunch? TMI or not, that's me, too. :grouphug:

you guys are crack ups:lmao: and just so you know...I probably eat more fruit when Im at DL than I do on an average basis...I LOVE the grapes and pineapple there for some reason...I rarely eat chocolate at all and like I originally said, I dont drink soda really...oh and Rancho Del Zocalo and me will never entertwine unless every single restaurant (sit down or CS) and ODV cart is closed down...I live in Cali and we get mexican food at every corner around here so the last thing I want to do is eat it at the park...maybe I should try the prune thing...they come in that canister thingy that looks like individual candy now...so I will continue on with the water bit and start taking prunes...

I would venture to say it has MUCH more to do with the germies you are picking up than how much water you are drinking (although junk food certainly doesn't help!). I'm guessing there are more scary things on those rides than we would ever want to know about (fecal matter included) and I imagine that none of us wash our hands anywhere NEAR enough while we are at the park.

Honestly, I'd carry some clorox wipes and hand sanitizer with me and use it after every ride. But I'm the mom of an immuno-suppressed child waiting for a liver transplant, soooooo I could be a tad more neurotic about it than most people. ;) :lovestruc But seriously, things like C-diff are highly, highly contagious and very, very common and cause diarrhea and such.

Oh, whoopsies, I skimmed over "the backed up kind" part. hehe. I would contirbute that to lack of water and junk food, too. Also, I dont know if you live out of town, but lots of people experience that when they travel. The only thing I can think of is the change of climate/elevation just shocks the system. :confused3

But, but, if you DO have a potty emergency in the park (say, like after drinking a double shot cappuccino to help get things going), there's always the secret bathroom for those of us who are overly sensitive to public restrooms with lots of stalls.

Not that any of the aforementioned has every happened to me personally . . .:rolleyes1

Only applicable for those who have somehow divined the location of the secret bathroom. Personally, I think it's a myth, like Bigfoot, or someone enjoying Innoventions.

it is not a myth....but so many people whined and moaned that they didnt know where the secret bathroom is and dumb people told them...that now EVERYBODY knows and its always busy:rolleyes2

I find the same issue happens to me when I go camping. I found that eating dried fruit helps alot. Even more than just "regular" fruit. I bring dried appricots, apples and raisins with me.
Also, I found out when my kids were little and had issues, if you can soak in a bathtub where your entire stomach is submerged, it will make the stomach muscles relax and help things move along.
Another thing I found out, don't know if it makes any impact on you, but the milk you typically get in resorts is either whole milk or 2%. And ice cream, which most people consume more of. If you're not used to the increased milk fat, it can really do a number on your stomach. My kids have problems with that.
Personally I have the opposite issue!
