This board has been a fantastic help to me (even on threads I just lurked on) for renting a vacation home. You guys are the best! THANK YOU!

I now need a little more help. Now that the house is rented, now what do I do? Trip insurance? Just in case anything goes wrong, I'm assuming. I wouldn't buy it with a hotel/resort because of the chain and the cancellation polices, but a rental home is a little more strict and if something goes wrong, there is much less recourse. Everything is in good standing now, but come November...

We drive, so I'm not worried about flights and that type of stuff.

Which insurance is the best? Is the HomeAway/VRBO thing good enough? Should I do both?

Or is any of it needed?

I've rented condos and homes 9 times since 1999, and never purchased trip insurance, but I just make sure that the terms I have agreed to are satisfactory, and allow me some "wiggle room" in case of the unexpected.

Hello,
When we rent houses (or townhouses) I always get trip insurance. I go through my AAA agent and only on the amount of the rental. We usually drive when we rent. I get the insurance on myself, because that would include my husband (as traveling companion) if either of us get sick  or something happens along the way. The amount is under $75 (not sure off hand) and it is worth it for us.

It's a choice and for my piece of mind ...
