OK my turn to ask, good dig camera?

OK DIS'ers I got a GC burnin a hole in my pocket, and a want for a new GREAT digital camera! Not looking to break the bank here, just something that will take good quality pictures. I currently have a MINI DV Canon Elura 40 MCdigital camcorder that has a digital still camera in it. However, here recently I have been seeing friends digital cameras and the picture quality is so much better than what is in my camcorder. Can anyone tell me why? LOL

So, for about the millioneth time, I would to read your Dig camera suggestions. I would prefer one that uses an SD card instead of a compact flash, as my camcorder uses an SD card.

Around $300 or preferably less. I was looking at circuitcity.com and they have the Kodak Easy share 5.0 MP for $299..........hmmm so many choices I dont know what I need......
