Ok moms, when did you let your DD start shaving their pits?

My DD10 has pit hair! She was in ballet class the other night and her friend sees her underarms and says eeewwww! Goodness, it's not even that much, more like a tiny fluff of hair. I can't remember, but is 10 too young to be dealing with pit hair? She wants to shave it now because she's embarrassed.

It isn't an age thing. Its more about when they feel self conscious. Now would be a good time to start since her 'friend' brought it to her attention.

I have a 12 YO and a 9 YO. Neither have hairy pits, yet (won't be long, though!).

If she has it, and wants to shave it, I'd let her shave it. You can get her the kind of razor that has the wires so she can't cut herself. It won't hurt anything so why not?

As soon as it is noticed, it is time too shave (unless, of course, that's not your thing...).

Well as soon as they get hair, let them shave, esp. armpit hair. I mean....ewww.;)

That being said my 13yodd has a fear of the razor and cutting herself. Oh that was loads of fun to deal with.:headache: 10 is about normal. I started to shave when I was 8.

I was shaving her pits up till this yr. (yes I know that is gross, believe me). I finally got fed up and forced her to do it. Now it was not easy since she is truly afraid of "pain" but she finally figured it out.

She is still not good at it and I am still guiding her from time to time. Can you tell it drives me bananas.:lmao:

As soon as it shows up! :scared1:

I'm not there yet, but I noticed the same thing with my niece this past summer. She wasn't bothered by it a bit, but I think it's best to get rid of it before their peers notice. Kids can be awful mean and shaving the pits is so simple.

OMG! I am plugging my ears and saying lalalalalalalalalalala!

I have DD10 and DD9 and neither have any hair yet. I will let them shave as soon as they ask.

Unless you have my younger dd. :lmao:

I'm assuming DD11 does. I didn't realize that she had taken one of my razors and had started shaving her legs. That was a year ago or so.

Dd13 started pits and legs at 10, and she's very blonde. For my other girls, as soon as they ask.

True. Maybe you could try an electric razor? I had one when I was younger. I also tried the Epilady, but I won't even get into that. :rotfl:

She has one which she uses for her legs. It is a man's face shaver. I think I went thru 5 reg. razors, until we found one she could wield for her pits.:lmao:

And let's face it, the selection on women's electric razors sucks.

If your dd is afraid of a razor, you might try something like Nair---they have a 3 minute cream.

It is a little stinky, but takes care of the issue for about a week or so at a time.

I know some folks don't like to get into using chemicals....so to each their own. However, it is an option if the razor is becoming a huge issue for your family.

Because my mom never brought it up to me, I was afraid to ask, and so I shaved in secret for a year or more before my mother noticed -- then I told her I'd learned at summer camp.

I was sure to tell DD10 to let me know when she feels she wants to start shaving -- doesn't bother her, yet.

I agree, why not use a non-shaving approach like Nair/Neet?? No pain, over in about 3 minutes and easy to do.

My DD started at 9. My mom wouldn't let me shave until I was 12 and it was horribly embarrassing by 12! Especially when your school has a pool and PE included swimming!:scared1: I swore I wouldn't do that do my DD, as soon as she had hair she started shaving. She will be 11 soon and hasn't asked about shaving her legs yet and I can tell she hasn't tried.

I have a son, but if I ever have a daughter I would let her as soon as she wanted to. I know that underarm hair bothers me and I shave everyday to avoid ever growing any.

Why would anyone want their child to continue to be embarrassed and/or self-conscious about something that is so easily remedied? I just don't get it.

Holy cow! I used an Epilady when I was about 15! It was an experience that I never want repeated, ever! My stepmom and I tried it out and she made me go first and I was nearly in tears! She was too, not from pain but from laughing at me. Serioulsy, it felt like little knives digging out my leg hair! That thing is like some kind of medieval torture device.

I think I'll get my DD one of those wire shavers then that another poster mentioned. I'm terrified she's going to cut her pits to shreds.
