Ok, this is what I carry, the Under Armour backpack style bag. I got it at Dick's Sporting Goods. It has form like straps so they don't dig into your shoulders, it was about $20. I think with the stuff that you want to carry around that maybe you should have 2 backpacks, one for yourself and one for dh. You can use one for the change of clothes, ponchos and camera. As for waterproof bag, I am not sure how big your camera is but I find that a ziploc gallon size bag works great for the camera and for money too so that doesn't get soaked.

The other bag could be used for your water storage and snacks/sandwiches. I will give you a little tip as to what I do. I pack and bring from home those little blue freeze pack that you would put in with a lunch (I bring unfrozen) and freeze them in my room (DVC have kitchen) and I also bring dh's little lunch bag. It will hold a couple of drinks and I put the drinks in the blue freeze packs and they stay cool all day long. Works great.

A last suggestion since your crew is older is that everyone has their own bag and hold their own drink, a couple of waters and a some snacks could get heavy as the day goes on you could easily spread that out over 3 people.

Have fun!

I carry a purse/backpack or a very small messenger bag. The messenger bag style is easier to get in and out of. Instead of extra clothes I carry small fold-up ponchos (the cheapo kind you can get at the Dollar Store). I carry only the minimum of stuff: a frozen water bottle that can be refilled and to keep it from getting everything wet I put it in a clean white tubesock. The sock also helps insulate it. Park maps, id, cash, credit card, sunglasses, reservation numbers/phone numbers all typed up on an index card which I laminate, sunscreen, a small first-aid kit with bandaids and pre-cut moleskin, a small tube with motrin for the kids and Excedrin for the adults, gum and that's about it. Husband carries our tickets and the camera snaps on his belt buckle. One kid has photo-sensitive glasses, the other wears regular glasses and we bring a hat for her in case the sun is intense. When we are there in the summer I also freeze a washcloth in a baggie, or bring a bandana. Something cold and wet feels mighty good on a hot neck or overheated head.

We had a stroller last year and so I took a backpack with all the extra clothes, headache/fever pills, sunscreen, etc (anything that wouldn't kill me if it was stolen). We left the backpack with the stroller parked outside rides. But I wore a fanny pack with my ID, credit card, etc. Attached to the pack strap was my waterproof camera bag (very small camera = very small bag). We also had a waterproof/insulated bottle holder with a small strap and a longer over the shoulder type strap. That was a lifesaver. The bottle that came with it had a large enough mouth to fill with ice from the ice machine at the hotel or to dump a FREE cup of ice water into in the parks. Any of the sports bottles of water fit into the holder also.
So that's 3
  1. backpack with expendables
  2. fanny pack with attached waterproof camera case
  3. water bottle holder

I use a plain backpack like I used to use for school. Ziplocs work for anything that can't get wet, like the camera. Ziplocs are also good for organizing - I have one for the band-aids and such, one for our pressed penny things, etc. Much easier than digging through a bag full of loose items and Ziplocs are cheaper than buying specialty things. I also have one of those plastic report covers that keeps any papers I need that day together and dry.

We used a backpack like you would for school also. It was one that I had gotten from Land's End. It was great. And poncho's for the water rides from Walmart...88 cents each. There were 8 of us so space was limited and I was the only one carrying the backpack. I bought the VERY large ziplock baggies to put the wet rain ponchos back in after we had them worn. I did bring a few water bottles in ziplocks also. The backpack was light enough that my family even carried it from time to time. Plus, after the first day when I realized that they look through every zipper and pocket during the security check I was glad I had one that didn't have alot of them. I kept my ID and my hotel card in the inside pocket of my lightweight windbreaker. The pocket was not easily accessible to anyone but me.

We also use a regular school type backpack. The secruity checks every pocket on any bags. Ziplocs are great for seperating essentials and for putting wet items into after use. Buy the water bottle holders(over the shoulder straps or clip on belt loop type) and give each person their own water bottle, freeze overnight. You can refill at the water fountains, which have chilled water. When in table service restaurants ask for a to-go cup and/or refill your water bottles. (table service gives free refills, so take advantage) Also keep in mind that all parks have first-aid centers, you can get simple items like aspirin, band-aid, antacids, eceterra for free.

I like to carry a smaller backpack, kind of child size in black nylon. I am searching for a new one since the one I have is a bit too heavy empty b/c of the padding. I like it b/c it has 2 main compartments, to seperate diaper things or food stuffs from camera and other stuffs. There is also a front zipper pocket for small items and a front pouch for the cell phone. I like a backpack with dual zippers so you can reach in from the top. DH carries it on the left, I carry it on the right so we each have the shoulder strap adjusted properly and it is easy to hand it off.

I have another one that is a bit bigger and holds water bottles on the outside in a mesh pocket but sometimes it is too big. I actually have brought both with me and switched off, day for night.

this trip I am trying a fanny pack for the video camera, so I can have quick access to it and I'll let DH carry the backpack or put it on the stoller. It will be a Dec trip so I don't have to worry about the heat of carying to much.

last time i carried a backpack type bag, this next time i am thinking about one of those bags that go in front of you and cross like the beauty banners the beauty contestants wear- not sure of the name but i know the description

We just take our kids backpack from school. Not too big, but holds what we need. I did this last september add a fanny pack to our stuff though. It was easier to get room keys, tickets, etc. Instead of digging through the back pack, I didn't like to leave stuff like that right in the small front pouch.

WOW thanks so much all great feedback! Carone, I have never dared to dream of my family carrying their own things !!! You know I love it and why NOT!!! I am going to to exactly that I can't wait to see the expressions priceless I am sure ! Will take a photo of it! Did not even think aobut using the ziplocs for the camera, great!

Thank you all, and when I get back I will have to tell my tale of the boys carrying items tehmselves!!!

Pre-baby we just carried one backpack for DH and I. We took turns carrying it. But now that we have a kiddo, we carry alot more LOL! So we carry a duffell bag and stick it in the basket under the stroller. It works for us and we just leave the bag in the stroller when we go on rides. DD is almost two and has been to Disney three times....so that's what we have done for the past three times we've been.

Last trip and this trip, I took (will be taking) large tote bag/purse. Everything inside (sunscreen, first aid, clothes, snacks, diapers, wipes, camera, etc) I placed in separate plastic ziplock bags). I had only one bag to carry, granted I hitched it to the stroller most of the time, and it gave me easy access. I bought a monogrammed Mickey tote from the Disneyshopping site a couple months ago that I will be taking this year. The tote was easy too when going through security checkpoints and also doubled as a beach bag when we were just going to the pool.

I am planning to carry a fanny pack. I'm planning to make the kids carry one too. I know it's dorky, but I can't get excited about carrying a backpack in the May heat.

Does anyone have one of the Ameribag slings? It's supposed to be good on your back and easy to carry, and it looks almost like a backback with just one strap? My dad loves his for when he travels, and I think I'm going to order one myself.

I don't have the Ameribag, but I recently bought a Baggalini messenger bag and have been using it to try it out before our trip in June. It has been sufficient to hold some diapers, a wallet, cell phone, and assorted other sundries, and is easy to access while a toddler is perched on one hip! I like it a lot. I think for Disney, we'll have to add a backpack to that though - to account for ponchos, water bottles, sunscreen, etc. Shouldn't be a problem - we can stow it in the basket of the stroller.

I have a Lands End Diaper Bag Backpack and LOVE it. Lots of pockets for everything, looks just like a nice backpack and very comfy!!

i usually take a backpack :) i love jansport! mine has 2 seperate compartments and then the front zipper!

i pack everything in ziplocks makes it leasier to get what you need and it makes it sit better!

i will be packing First aidkit, camera, poncho's, snacks, and a change of clothes for my daughter!

Thanks for all the great ideas!

Amy
