Ok, no I am not pregnant yet...but DH and I have decided 2011 is the year we will try...actually gonna start trying in a few weeks...meaning I am going off my birth control. It has been recommened I finish my Rx as normal, then just all together stop..

So my question is this...I am trying to get an average here...how long did it take for you to get pregnant after stopping birth control. I know everyone is different, I am just trying to get an idea..ya know..

Right away, even when I didn't want to get pregnant (stopped bc and had an appointment for an IUD - was off on what date it was ;)).

It took me about 9 months...I know,ironic.

However, know that everyone is different. You can't go by "the average" or how long it took your neighbor. Everything that has to do with kids rarely goes as planned. Relax and have fun!:rotfl:

Well my firstborn wasn't a planned pregnancy, but my second and third were. I got pregnant immediately after I stopped taking my bc pills (Micronor). By immediately, I mean within 2 weeks, each time. Good luck to you!

Three months.

Spent month one, charting my temps so I could get an idea of what the "picture" looked like when charting.

Month two worked on timing.

Month three worked on timing as well. Didn't expect to get pregnant the, figured I was doing the whole charting thing wrong so I went out and bought "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" to read up on before starting another cycle. When my p did not come, I tested and found I was pregnant. Never even read the book.

34 months, 4 iui cycles and 1 ivf cycle.

Remember it can take several months for your body to actually start ovulating after stopping birth control.

I was in my late 30s and was told it would "take a while" because of my age...2 months each time. So as everyone has said there are no set rules...it's a crap shoot.

With my oldest, seven months, when nothing had happened after six months and I wasn't sure exactly when I ovulated DH and I got busy every night for 30 days. That worked!;) After that I had four more pregnancies that we used the Shettles Method for to determine the sex of the baby. It worked right away every time! Good luck to ya.

14 or 15 months. I was on Yasmin. And I got pregnant right after we started trying for our second (wasn't on BC that time), so I don't think I have any fertility issues.

Without medical intervention...it's been over 15 years. Hopefully you'll have much better luck!

It's been a year and a half now with no luck.

Yeah I know its a totaly different for everyone. I have been on BC for almost 14yrs, so wonder how long it will take...if at all. I am in my early 30's. We shall see.

what freaks me out...is DH has a history of twins in his family...and it has already skipped an generation..LOL..I cant imagine twins...:rotfl:

I never made it through the first month with both of mine. I don't know what the "rules" are now, but when I had my children I was told to finish out the BC prescription and then use an alternate form of BC for 3 months to make sure it was "flushed" out of my system and then start trying. That's what we did.

If it makes you feel better, your DH's family will not increase your chances of having twins - it depends on the woman's side of the family, and the genetic link to double ovulating. It's your body, not his body. Identical twins are also not caused by the male side of the family.

I was 33 (almost 34) went off in March, was pg in Aug so 6 months. I used Taking Charge of your Fertility for a reference and did my basal temp every am and charted to watch for ovulation.

I think I read somewhere that 6 months is the "average" but really, every woman is so different you never know. Start taking vitamins and drinking oj right away. I also stopped alcohol and cut down on caffine. I just acted as if I were every month so I was ready when it finally happened and gave DD the best start I could.

Good luck!

I was going to say the same thing! Granted, our boys are 16 & 13 now so maybe things have changed? I was 24 & 27 respectively, it took 2 months the first time (I counted wrong) & 1 month the second time.

Awesome book! There is also a website to visit that goes along with the book, but I will warn you there was a lot of drama that went on behind the scenes there and the very well informed posters have left.

We got pregnant the first time trying with both pregnancies.

In a lot of ways twins are easier then singles so don't freak out if you happen to have twins. It has been a lot of fun watching our twins grow up.

Also, twins are a genetic predisposition on the WOMAN'S side to release more than one egg at a time. If you don't have this trait, you won't have fraternal twins. Identical twins can happen to anyone. The skipping a generation is a myth.
