Yay! We're going to the Poly in October 2006. Does anyone have any great tips for dining, getting a great room or any other great things to do at the resort? Your words of wisdom are appreciated!

Well definately live on Tikiman's site!! I love that he included the sound, so we could listen to the monorail, and the names of all the resorts before we left!! I requested the longhouse that looked like it held a lot of people near the pool Tokelau I think, but they gave me Rartonga, right next to the Great House, I shut my mouth!! I knew 2nd floors have no balconies, but it was August, so I "settled" for being right next to all the 'action', and near the laundromat, and a skip to the bus, and a skip and a hop to the TTC...

For me, one of my favorite memories has to be getting a dinner from Kona "to go" and taking it to our room, stopping at the store and picking up a bottle of wine (they uncorked it for free, the wine under $10! cheaper than 2 glasses that we would've shared at dinner!!) DD needed to rest up before the late emh nite, so she had her food, and tv, and dh and I had a nice quiet peaceful dinner!! Way cool for us!

THEY SELL WINE AT THE STORE?!?!?!

That is the best news I have heard all day. I will just pack a screwdriver...please tell me more...what labels and what price ranges??

Miller--we are going to be there in August and can't wait. Dinner at Ohanna's, WIshes cruise, wishes from the beach, Tonga Toast, and just the thought of sipping on an umbrella drink from a pineapple at the volcano pool gives me the chills.

You will love the Polynesian :flower:

You will love their zero entry pool! It was the best. Enjoy the music that plays everywhere you go. Take full advantage of the great monorail service. We were in Roratonga longhouse. It was so convenient to the food court, monorail and transportation station! The resort is not huge, so no matter what longhouse, you won't have far to walk.

Miller1412, we have something in common. We celebrated our honeymoon at Dixie Landings in 1996 and were just at AKL.

Have breakfast at Ohana, watch wishes from the beach, and just take a little time to relax and enjoy the resort!! The monorail is great!!

Have a great time and enjoy! This is my favorite resort yet!

We'll be at the Poly in October 2006 too!

You will L-O-V-E the Poly! The atmosphere is wonderful! As another poster suggested visit Tikiman's site for everything there is to know about the Poly.

We've stayed in the Fiji longhouse 3 times and really like the location. Our garden view room looked out over lush gardens, a small beach with those swaying palm trees, Luau Cove, the Wedding Pavilion, and the monorail gliding by! One time we stayed on the marina side of Fiji and didn't care for it. The view was nice but it was too noisy. The water mice engine noise and even voices/laughter really carried over the water. Although it was kinda neat to lie in bed at night and watch the flames from the fire pit at 'OHana!

And check-out the children's club "Neverland Club". They offer night-time childcare services for a fee but from noon until 4 pm each day you can take your children there for free (you must stay with them) and they can enjoy some of the activites they have there. It was a nice, cozy, dark/cool place for our DD to decompress from all the excitement at the parks. She made arts & crafts, played the free video games, did a puppet show for me, played dress-up, watched Disney movies on the movie screen. Very nice. And it's all decorated in a Peter Pan theme - so cute! DD loved spending time there.

The Poly is heaven - you will be so glad you stayed there!

I'm thinking I ordered Beef (and the appetizer wings of course!) so I must've found a nice Merlot! No need to pack a screwdriver (or the absolutely must have screwpulls!) The shop that sells both red and white wines (not a huge selection, but nice, whites are chlled too!) will pull the cork for you, free of charge!!

I just cant tell you how I look back over that memory! Its the little things you remember!! I hadnt planned it, in fact we decided to eat some of the food stuffs I had bought for lunches, which dd was enjoying (I had bread, cheese, peanut butter, chips or pretzels, and fruit) but decided to take a walk, and saw the Kona Cafe, and wondered hmmmmm and I asked the hostess, she gave me a menu, I ordered, she gave me a pager, then I wandered over to the gift shop, found the wine... (and dh does have a swiss army knife) but as I was checking out when she asked if I needed a corkscrew, I thought she was going to sell me one, nope, she pulled it out and said "no charge"... So while dd was entertained with her TV, and the items she had purchased, plus those coloring books and crayons we packed brand new... dh and I had our feet up, and sat and talked while looking out at our fabulous view!!

I also reccommend the pineapple Lupa Lupa's! I know they were expensive, but I'm telling you, sitting on the beach with a pineapple in my hand while watching wishes... it felt worthy of our Wedding Anniversary!

Also, I will say DD enjoyed standing in the pool watching the fireworks! It was hard to get her out of the pool - I teased, why did we come to Disney, it would've been cheaper to spend a week at Wisconsin Dells!! :rotfl:

Speaking of wine, will an average size bottle fit inside the fridge in the rooms? I would like to have a bottle or two chilling while we're out.

I just thought of another tip. If you don't have a pail and shovel, be sure to buy them in the gift shop so the kids can dig in the sand. They were $1.99 when we went in August 03.

Another vote for the Lapu Lapu. My favorite part of our honeymoon was sitting on the beach the first night sipping some tasty rum concoction out of a hollowed-out pinapple watching the fireworks. Just walking around the resort grounds at night with the tiki torches burning and the music gently playing in the background is an activity in itself. Also at around 6:00pm each night they have a torch lighting ceremony in front of the GCH that is a lot of fun.

I am getting so excited! Thanks for all of the tips...I don't know if I'll be able to stand waiting until Oct. 2006...TG for the Dis!!

I'm feeling so good about the decision to go Poly...it sounds wonderful. The Tikiman site is awesome!

We just got back from the Poly and absolutely loved it! We stayed in Fiji room 3318, facing the marina. I really loved the view. Here's a pix:

The pool and slide were very cool. My DH and I bought a frosty beverage at the bar and then walked in the sand hand in hand, then sat at a swing overlooking the lake.... very romantic.

Important food/bev info: besides the Lapu Lapu, you must try the Tonga Toast (it's sort of a french toast made with sourdough bread, stuffed with bananas, and rolled in cinnamon sugar.... hmmm heaven) and Kona coffee at Kona's Cafe.

The character breakfast at Ohana was so-so... I prefer Crystal Palace. However, dinner at Ohana is great (but there are no characters for lunch and dinner).

And, like somone said a few posts above, visit Tikiman's site.... very useful information.

Eat at Kona's - One of the best restaurants on WDW property, IMHO.

Watch the Fireworks from the Volcano pool - if you sit at the far end, there are little jets - no quite hot tub jets, but still nice after a long day, esp. with fireworks.

Rent a watermouse for a half hour - Seven Seas Lagoon & Bay Lake are the best places for water mousing!

When you are walking to the TTC to grab the Epcot monorail, Keep your eyes open & steer clear of the bushes. I've seen the biggest spiders in my life in the bushes there! :earseek: Great Landscaping, nasty spiders....

You have so long to wait, I feel bad for you.

Dinner at O'hano is the best. Try to time it so you can be there for wishes.

You'll love it.

In your picture you have a little girl. The last two years our DD's have taken the Hula dancing lessons that they give on Saturday mornings. They had a blast.

Have your camera ready if you do it.

Definately, try the Lupa, Lupa at Ohana's.

When going to Epcot, WALK to the TTC for the monorail. Do NOT take the resort monorail to the TTC. It's faster to walk to TTC.

TELL ME ABOUT IT!!! Right now it seems like forever! But I can't complain, we just did the AKL in April.
