OK, iphone users, help me out - text messages...

Question: Can you delete a text message on an iphone without reading it?

Situation: I do not have a text plan because I don't text often enough to merit it. I have received a spam text and a few mistaken messages meant for someone else, and I've had to pay for them because I can't figure out how to delete them without opening them first. This is an iphone 3GS if that makes a difference.

So, is there a way to save myself the expense of paying for mistaken or junk texts? Thank you!!

i don't think it matters if you read them or not.. its the act of receiving it no? (anyone else ticked that you can be charged for an action that you have no say in)

but on my iphone i can press the edit button (upper left corner) and then select the minus sign to delete it.

Sorry, no answer to your question, but TextNow is a free app that we use in lieu of the text plan. Texts can still come the old way, which you would still pay for, but the bulk of your texts would be free.

Yes, that really ticks me off! I just went to settings and changed my message setting to no preview, but I don't think that will help with the charge. I am able to delete the messages, but I want an option to ignore it without opening it like you can an e-mail, voicemail, etc. My next question is, can you block a number from texting you and if so, how?

Text free is another texting app. I think you can send and receive texts for free. DD has it on her ipod touch.

Once you receive a text message, if you don't have a texting plan, you are charged for it. If you want to block a specific number from texting you, give your carrier a call.
