Kaylee's Kindergarten teacher AND her Principal just showed up at the door to introduce themselves!

Can you imagine? I thought that was SO cool!!
I just got her registered yesterday and today they came over and the GREAT part is it was the teacher we wanted!

Im really impressed!

Wow. Very cool. I wonder if the sanitation engineer will show up tomorrow ;)

Is that how they do things in Idaho? They just showed up unannounced at your front door?? I can't even fathom such an event happening here in NY.:earseek:

Wow, how sweet!

Was it unannounced though? I would want to clean my house before the principal showed up!

My old school district did this as well. (although they called ahead of time!)

The 1st grade teacher did a home visit.

I wouldn't be liking that- it's usually a mad house here, barking dog, ringing phone, screaming 7 year old, surly teenager (coffee drinking freak;) ) Thanks but no thanks- and I'm sure they wouldn't want me to show up unannounced at their homes either.

See how cynical I am?

How great! I would be impressed too. Sounds like your daughter has a great year ahead of her.

totally unannouced.
They didnt come in though even when I offered, just said they wanted to introduce themselves and meet Kaylee, if she was available. :) It made Kaylee feel SO important! Her teacher brought her a pencil and the principal brought her a licorice stick. They were incredibly nice and very friendly. Said they wanted to let us know they are here for us for ANY reason any time we needed them!

Honestly, I thought it was the neatest thing! Kaylee will be talking about that for a very long time! :)

This is a pretty large school and I know that between the 4 Kindergarten teachers they must be visiting probably 200 homes!

In theory it's a nice idea and goes a long way towards bridging the gap between home and school but I'm with the others here in that I wouldn't like an unexpected visit. With my luck they'd show up with the house a mess, DD still in her PJs and me in my sweaty gym clothes.

I'm not a fan of the "pop in" anyway- I have a couple of friends who live close by and I don't mind them popping, or any of MY relatives popping.... but that's about it!

LOL I dont mind people popping in I guess.

I have a friend who shows up quite a bit and usually walks right in. One time I didnt even know she was here till I heard her messing around in the kitchen  it was my Birthday and she brought me breakfast :)

Shes wonderful though and I actually like that we have an open door poilicy. we usually knock once and then walk in unless the dh's are home then we wait lol.

That's outstanding. I don't appreciate uninvited guests either, but the diligence of them taking the time and making the effort outweighs what a mess I must be. And I would be a mess;)

I would freak! I would be just my luck that they would show up while my kids were arguing & I was looking a mess! They would forever look at my child & think, "that poooor kid!, his Mom looked like she rolled out of bed at noon!" :hyper: Thank God they don't do that here. :)

Wow, I'm impressed too! We registered last week and no one came to our door! Why aren't our kids going to the same elementary again??;)

That's a really nice gesture. It's really nice for the kids to get a chance to meet the adults one on one before the school year starts, that way if they feel they need something it's kindof like they already 'know' them so they shouldn't have much problem asking. :)

tricia.

My first thought was "Thats awful! I would have been so mad!". If you couldnt tell Im the type of person who freaks out when uninvited guests show up at the door. However if they didnt come in thats not so bad...but I still think some notice would have been a lot more polite. Usually when Im hanging around the house Im not dressed very nice at all(especially in hot weather), Im wearing my glasses, etc...Not a pretty sight! ;) Its not how Id like to meet people. ;)

LOL Dana, this is Kaylee's school not the one you guys should be going to ;)
