Sorry, I just need to vent about this since I am absolutely bored out of my witts! Believe it or not, there is one thing I definitely miss about living in New York. That's the many different supermarkets to shop in. I REALLY miss the A&P and PathMark stores I used to go to.

See, in NY, we had:
King Kullen
A&P
PathMark
Shop-Rite
Edwards (which I believe is something else now)
Waldbaums

In Florida all we have is:
Publix
Publix
Publix
Publix
oh, and I believe Publix too. With the exception of that Winn-Dixie about 200 miles away!

Jeez, I live near 3 Publix as it is, and they are building one up 1 minute away from me! UGH! I wish supermarkets were more throughout the nation rather than in a couple of states.

PS: if you can find pineapple soda from Pathmark (in cans), send it to me! mmmmmmmmm, pineapple. :D

Ha, I felt the same way when we moved to Jacksonvile...
Publix and Winn Dixie...and that's it...

In Calif. there was Ralphs, Vons, Stater Bros...Albertsons...Trader Joes....boo hoo...

I miss the variety in SALAD DRESSING! Yes, laugh if you must but
Marzettis Balsamic Vinegar is to die for along with Berenstains dressing and El Torito....I have to stock up when I visit or have my mom send it to me! LOL

HOlycow

i totally understand your missing these stores...in my city we have an A&P, Super Stop N Shop, Shop Rite and a local C-Town market...and about 5 minutes out of the city where i am we have a Food Town...

but then again you are closer to WDW and that makes ME jealous! bitter sweet i would say ;)

Sounds yummy. We don't have Pathmark here but we do have variety. I'll keep my eyes open for that soda. I'd like to try it myself.:D

We use to have a small variety of grocery stores here in Jacksonville. When I was a kid we had;
Pantry Pride
A&P
Jewel T
Winn-Dixie
Publix
Albertsons
Use to be you only found a Publix on the southside of town and they were closed on Sunday many, many moons ago. Now it is down to Publix, Winn-Dixie, Albertsons, Food Lion and a few Harris Teeter's.

MetalMasterC, Edwards is now Stop and Shop, and A &P merged with Waldbaum's and no longer does business as A & P around here. but we also have Trader Joe's and Long Island has a Fairway and we're also getting a Stew Leonard's.

PUblix or nothing? it would make me nuts.

I'd take Publix, Publix, Publix to be that much closer to Disney!!!!:jester: :bounce:

If I want to drive a bit more, I could get to Pathmark, but it's not in my town anymore. The closest supermarket is a tiny King Kullen (blechhhh!), then Foodtown, Walbaums, Trader Joes, and furthest (but still sometimes necessary), Pathmark. Is Publix's pricing bad, or is it the variety?

We lived in Florida for many years and I would give anything to go to a Publix again! It is one of the highlights of my WDW trips! I never went to one that wasn't clean, and the prices are so much better than anything we have here. Selection is different from region to region though, I guess it is just what you are used to. I would give ANYTHING to live in Florida again!

How could you forget Winn Dixie? They aren't my favorite place to shop, but we don't have much of a choice here. Publix is my favorite of the two. However, I REALLY MISS SHOP-RITE AND PATHMARK! Choices here are soooooooooooooo limited! :( I really miss cucumber salad dressing and bacon and tomato salad dressing. FLORIDA doesn't have them! :( And there's plenty of other things they don't have.

Region to region? More like store to store. I can get Butterball Lower Salt turkey breast at the deli in one store but not another. And I REALLY hate that they PUSH the Boreshead products! They basically carry Boreshead and Publix brands. Florida doesn't know what a foodstore should be like! And forget about bagging! They can't bag either! They need to go for training in the Northeast part of the U.S. to learn to do it properly.

my grandmother (in michigan) is always talking about all these grocery stores up and yup you guess it ... we have a Publix on every corner.... Albertsons closed here about 15 years ago.. and yes.... Winn Dixie (i call it something else.... but i can't say it on here!!)

you know what i would love? to have one town in florida stay open past friggin' 9:00!!!

the whole state must close down.... every store closes.....(unless you just like going to Wal-Mart for a good time)

i'm not a clubbing kinda girl (and all the good clubs are in Orlando and Tampa anyway... ) never have been even before kids....so that leaves Wal_Mart..... Whoo Hoo!

sorry i'm just venting about how boring little florida is.... don't flame me.... i have nothing to compare it to... lived here my whole life..

Funny, b/c when we lived in NYC, what I really missed was having real, clean grocery stores with aisles wide enough to fit shopping carts going BOTH directions - imagine that! Now we're in NC, and have lovely clean Harris Teeters, pretty clean Winn Dixies, and okay Food Lions. Nothing nearly as dirty as the Waldbaum's, Pathmark, Western Beef, or Key Food we shopped at when we lived in NY. Bleh... Sometimes we would go to the store, and they were all sold out of milk. Every container of milk would be gone! Other times it would be the chicken - no chicken to be had in the entire Waldbaum's! Or sometimes every yogurt on the shelves would be expired - gross... I was always complaining to the manager about things like that; isn't that illegal, to sell expired products?
I love being in the South again, where there's a superabundance of all kinds of food, and, let me say it again, the grocery stores are CLEAN! :)
Cheers!

I am about 30-45 min away from NYC (depends on who's driving) and never go there. I would LOVE to be near WDW, all the outlets, and the neat inexpensive food places, though. As soon as I step off the plane in FL, I take a deep breath, and it's like I'm in nirvana. There are now two seasons in NY- winter and summer. We'll probably skip right over spring and have a killer summer. I'll probably have to wait to move to FL till I'm too old to enjoy it...WAHHHHH!!!! I'll trade you both King Kullen and Pathmark for WDW and a little sunshine (just a little), OK?

I remember a few years back when Publix was caught changing the tags on meat that had expired dates on them! They were putting tags on that took the date further out! I've never bought any meat from them since. Only deli products.

hehe, come over here to Kissimmee. We have a pretty good place down the street called Kash 'n Karry. Walmart has a decent grocery store too.

This thread also made me think of the produce!
While in Calif. in Feb. the day before my flight left to come back home I visited the produce market in a store.....the Strawberries were out of this world, asparagus were green and tall, oranges were juicey, articokes where huge, avocados were big etc....I was just craving good produce...I come home and run out to the store...the strawberries here were HOLLOW inside! They were disgusting!
No articokes, aspargus or avocados, and the oranges here just don't cut it!...

Produce let down...LOL
Holycow
Who still has yet to taste a really good strawberry!! LOL

My husband is part of the management team at our local PathMark. We LOVE the pineapple soda. Any requests? I have to say though, that anytime I have been in a Publix on my way to WDW, they have been SO much cleaner than anything up this way!

I admit, the Publix we have are clean, but the selection isn't great in my area, and that spans 3 stores. I hope the one opening up next door to me has a good selection.

The nearest Kash n' Karry is about 20 to 25 minutes away! :(

The Wal-Mart stores rule though! I can get a lot of stuff from them. I did a major shopping at one and spent about $100 there. I also heard they are branching out to make it an official supermarket.
