 I have a reservation at the OKW for mid-October -- I wanted to change the resort to a regular WDW resort and it would have cost me a lot more points but I decided it was worth it and I just did an addon so I have lots of extra points to use -- unfortunately the resort I wanted was totally booked and then I was going to change to my 2nd choice when the member service rep advised me that the points the OKW is booked with would go into a holding bin and must be used before July '03 in order not to lose them but I can only call to make a reservation using those points within 60 days of arrival  -- I do NOT understand this?? Why can't the points just go to the new resort?? Is it because it's DVC to non-DVC? I don't see why that would matter -- and does it make sense that the points are held for me to use prior to July '03 and I can only make a res with those points within 60 days of arrival and this is exactly the situation!! (except DVC to non-DVC if that's the problem) I am just looking for clarification from the pro's since I'm a member for like 3 weeks (and yes, already added on!! :D  )

I am not quite sure exactly what you did. Keep these rules in mind and explain it again.

You book OKW with points, those points are unblemished.

You can cancel this reservation at any time more than thirty days out and the points return to normal....period.

You book AKL with points, those points are immidiately converted into "Reservation Points", RP

Once points are converted into RP they can not return.

I cancel the AKL and want to apply those points to OKW......NO, you can't use RP for DVC resort stays.

WAIT, WAIT, WAIT!!!!

I see your problem. You can not reserve a World of Disney stay or anything outside of DVC during the last sixty days of your use year.....Disney needs more time to recoup value from your points....IS THIS YOUR SITUATION??????

DVC members don't want people making reservations then cancelling them in such a short timebefore the actual arrival time. Remember, by you having that reservation you prevented a member from making a reservation, 60 days out is not enough time for most to use your reservation. You are a member of a group and these rules are set up to make it difficult for you and others to do what you want to do. It is only fair to the membership. It is not where you want to use these points but the fact that you held a reservation until the last moment that means something here.

I kind of understand what you're saying but I just made this reservation at OKW a week ago and just decided today to change it to a non-DVC property -- My arrival date is 3 weeks away. Just wanted to clarify.

WDWAlways--Sorry if I sounded harsh in my previous post, I did not intended to be. I am not big on the rules here. Others know more than me about all the rules. I always make my reservations 11 months out and never change them so I don't know all the ins and outs. I am sure I put my finger on the situation with you however. Once again I hope I did not come off as harsh! Welcome to the OKW by the way. If I were you I would leave everything alone a go to OKW.

Since your arrival date is less than 30 days away, by cancelling that reservation the points will go into a "holding" account. Those points can only be used for DVC resorts and must be booked only 60 days in advance. It seems like you wanted to use the points from your OKW reservation for a stay at a WDW hotel, and unforunately you can not at this time. I know you just made the ressie, but you are still held to the same rules that you wuld have been held to if you had made the reservation at the 11 month mark.

According to the new member guidebook, page 37, holding account points can also be used for the Disney Collection, Conceirge Collection, Adventure Collection, World Passport Collection unless the reservation is made within the last 60 days of your use year. You said they have to be used before July 03, so it doesn't sound like you are in the last 60 days of your use year. I don't understand either why you cannot change your reservation from OKW to a Disney Resort if there is availability at a Disney Resort. I would call back and ask for a supervisor.

Since you have cancelled a reservation within 30 days, those points go into the holding account. They may be used at any resort, but may only be booked 60 days in advance.

At this time you should be able to make a reservation at any DVC or other WDW resort for a reservation between now and November 22 (60 days).

I'd call back and try again to use your holding account points. If the CM you speak with won't make the reservation, then ask to speak to a supervisor.

It sounds as though you have an August use year, so these points must be used for a reservation by July 31, 2003.

Good Luck!

I don't understand either why you cannot change your reservation from OKW to a Disney Resort

To help keep things clear, you have to break it down step by step. While in your mind you are "changing" a reservation, you are really "cancelling" the OKW reservation and booking a WDW resort with points. The change includes a "cancel". So, since the original poster is within 30 days of his/her arrival date, the points they cancelled at OKW are now subject to the holding account rules. As to second part of the question from WDWAlways, if there is availablity at a WDW resort and it's not less than 60 days from the end of his/her Use Year, the Holding Account points could be used to a book a WDW resort for arrival within 60 days.

Agreed. I see no reason why you can not use the OKW holding acount points for The Disney Collection, under the conditions you have said.

Good Luck...

Thank you one and all for all advice and opinions -- the only question I still have just out of curiousity and for future reference -- is cancelling a DVC property within 30 days for another DVC property ok?? or does the same rule(s) apply?? Thanks much!! I'm only an official member since 9/5/02 (when Deed was recorded for my BWV resale) then I added on BCV 9/24/02 so this is all very new to me. I brought all the paperwork to work today to read it all again. I do agree just by using logic that if I cancel a res within 30 days and want to book another resort to arrive within the same 30 days it should be no problem to use the same points.

My last piece of advice is don't try to do this again. As a general rule it is best to make your reservations and be sure you can go during that time period plus the place you make the reservation at is the place you really want to go to. There is a lot of switching going on now that there are so many choices, by that I mean making a reservation 11 months out then at 7 months trying to switch it to some other DVD resort other than your home resort. I have a feeling something will have to be done about this in the future. Also lines are being tied up with people making reservations one day at a time and also this switching thing takes additional time as well.
I have heard stories of people not being able to get through to make their reservations, the above adds to this problem.
Finally if you want to stay at another resort besides DVC just make the reservation from the start. It would be better for all. I hope we were of some help to you. By the way, welcome to DVC

Welcome. You'll get all this under your belt before long. Take some time and read through the Member Handbook. Some of it will stick in your memory and you can go back and clarify when you hit a situation like this.

As I tried to say before....as soon as you say "change" you really mean "cancel" and "rebook". Thus, the cancellation policies do apply. In most cases, the end result is just a switching of points, but it has to be done step by step and isn't possible if there's no availability.
