I just came from iTunes and downloaded the Enchanted Motion Picture Soundtrack.
(It was just released today, Nov. 20, 2007.)

Why did I post on the Theme Parks board?
I know how many here love Classic Disney, and this music CD is the "real deal!"
I just wanted to alert the fans here (at least for a short while.)
I hope there is a bigger presence of this film in MGM/DHS or even Fantasyland.
If the film is as good as the music... this may be a big hit and need some "park carry-over."
(Like HSM.)

I have not yet seen an advance screening of the film but
the music and songs are just spectacular... in the classic Disney tradition.
I may be in line at the theater.

The first cut (must be from a fantasy/animated sequence in the film) is a mild parody of Snow White-type songs and arrangements.
It really made me laugh and tear-up a bit (I said I was a Sucker!)

The music is by famed Disney legend Alan Menkin.
He wrote Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Newsies and many more (Disney and otherwise.)

His signature of beautiful love songs are there, plus lots of what's called "Mickey Mouse Music" (whimsical music that closely follows the action in cartoons.)

I know that much of this music is written to comedically parody the type of film that Enchanted is, but it is very well-written and arranged in a very entertaining way.

My favorite cuts are the first 4 on the disc.

If you can make it through cut 1 (maybe even the first 30 seconds) without breaking into a big grin (and some nice tinglies) then you aren't the Disney fans I know! ;)

I just realized that Steven Swartz wrote the lyrics.
His songs in "WICKED" are amazing, and these are in a similar "self-aware" vein
(and others like Spamalot and Legally Blonde).
The Happy Working Song (think Whistle While You Work in today's terms on house-cleaning day) is a great example.
Very fun stuff!

So Close is sung by Jon McLaughlin.
I'm not familiar with his work, but he does a good job here.

You can just go to iTunes and sample the cuts for free.
You may also do that on Amazon.

Also- Click below to go to the Disney site and you can hear samples of the songs.

Let me know what you think.

The radio station I work at is involved in a promotional effort for Enchanted. We got the soundtracks yesterday along with some plush 'squirrels'.

I gave the album a listen last night and I have to say that "That's Amore" by James Marsden (if it's really him singing) is impressive.. shades of a young Robert Goulet!

The rest of the album is quite good.. "Happy Working Song" got me giggling with the juxtapositioning of classic 'fairy tale' terms next to things like "pull a hairball out of the drain.." & "scrub a tough mildew stain"

I'm pretty anxious to see this one.

I don't know why, but this movie just doesn't appeal to me so far. I have to go check out the music now though. Didn't know Menkin did it, that's a big plus to me.

And Steven Swartz wrote the lyrics.

He's had a bit of popularity with WICKED (Broadway) as of late.
;)

You will love the movie - I thought it was fantastic - I got to see a sneak preview of it last Wednesday and will probably go again. The movie itself is a mix of Sleeping Beauty, Snow White and Cinderella all rolled up into one. I did a review of the movie on the Family board. I especially love the scene where Giselle is singing the "Happy Working Song" - it is hysterical.

Thanks for the reviews on the music....I'm looking forward to seeing the movie!

(Is it me or are the boards getting s-l-o-w-e-r and s-l-o-w-e-r? I just give up sometimes waiting for the reply box to appear...)

Very, very slow.

For what its worth.. the DIS membership has increased from 124,000 when I joined to just shy of 149,000 today. (an increase of about 20%?) There are almost 20 million posts on here in 1.45 million threads.

Slowness comes down to too many users at the same time ... I'm just guessing, I'm not in the know.

Don't forget his classics like Godspell! A truly amazing show! (Sorry, can you tell I'm an Acting major? :) )

I'm sooo excited to hear this music!

FYI - it probably IS James Mardsen singing on the soundtrack. He sang in the movie "Hairspray". I think he has a great voice. Can't wait to get the soundtrack for my girls!:thumbsup2

I'm glad to hear the music is excellent. I will be one wanting to see this movie when it comes out. :goodvibes

ages would it be appropriate for? My wife is thinking of taking our four year old daughter who loves princesses. To give you an idea, we were at a hotel Labor Day weekend that didn't have the Disney Channel (surprised). The kids were watching a dvd on a portable player at night and my wife and I started watching Ever After on TV. I told my wife that our daughter probably wouldn't recognize the movie. When their show ended they watched with us. My son who is older recognized the movie. My daughter told us she really liked the movie.

Will she like Enchanted?

Ever After is one of my all-time (non-Disney) favorites.

I have not yet seenEnchanted, but since
Enchanted is promoted under the "Walt Disney's" label ("Walt Disney's ENCHANTED") it looks to be suited for all ages.
Its rated PG, but that's likely mostly due to the "wicked queen" scenes (Susan Sarandon-she certainly scares ME!)

I have just watched the (very funny) movie trailer (commercial for the film) on the Enchanted website.
Click below and watch it for yourself.

(I'm actually getting psyched to see this film.)

Here is a link to another Enchanted discussion on the Family DISboard-

I'm still searching for Juliegirl1's (above poster) review, but no luck yet.

My bad.. the accompany promotional materials clearly explain that Pip is a chipmunk. Woops!

Actually having had a chance to really listen to this today, I think "That's How You Know" is my favorite on the whole album.

There are movie clips available to watch here at this link as well and one of them is the entire presentation of "That's How You Know" as a musical number in the film. I really liked it.

Darn shame I can't keep one of these.. But that's ok, it's been almost 6 months since I've bought a CD, I think its time to buy another!

Thanks for the great tips as always, Robo. Menkin definitely has a magical touch & as for Stephen Schwartz, DD9 is absolutely barking mad about Wicked (she may or may not think she's Galinda -- or Glinda, when the mood strikes ;) at any given moment of the day.)

Definitely have to put this on her Christmas list. Sure hope the film lives up to this musical review.

I put the Enchanted movie soundtrack CD on my Christmas List!!! I can't wait to see the movie, we are going on Thanksgiving Day!!!

We got the soundtrack today and its great!!! I especially love the "working song" DD's (13) favorite is "that's how you know". We're going to see the movie tomorrow.
