Some things appeal to me about living in America but the one thing that really puts me off is that most people only get 2 weeks leave, no way could I cope with that!

Just to reiterate, this isn't a decision you can take lightly and it is both xpensive and full of potential pitfalls. You should certainly study the various forums that are available to discuss these topics (www.britishexpats.com/forum is another in case it hasn't already been mentioned) and, if you do decide to go ahead with it, you definitely need good legal counsel to handle the immigration application. If and when you do decide to pursue this, pm me for a legal firm we use regularly in matters like this.

Not true. It just depends on the company you work for.

I get 2 weeks vacation, 2 weeks sick time, 15 personal days and 10(I think it's 10) paid holidays every year and I have only been on the job 2 years.

I get another week of vacation when I hit the 3 year mark.

The US is like anywhere else..the more valuable you are as an employee and the better your negotiating skills, the more benefits you receive.

No, I'm a US citizen working in the US but the project I am currently working on is in the UK. We also have several UK nationals working for us here in the states.

You get used to it.

Vacation needs to be scheduled in advance because most people take several days at a time. Personal days and sick days don't require notice as they are usually used one or 2 days at a time. Holidays are predefined things such as christmas and thanksgiving.
