I give up! Really I do!

Now Katholyn, don't go getting all excited on me. It's OK, really it is. :earseek:

You see, I've given up on my current eating plan which according to my scale does not seem to be working. I am going to try Atkins for a while to see if it will work for me. Something has to change here. I've been sticking pretty close to my plan, exercising regularly & not losing weight. With the amount of weight I have to lose that just won't do anymore.

During the last Alex challenge I realized while journaling just how many carbs were part of my everyday eating & that got me started thinking about this. I bought the Atkins book over the weekend & will be reading it this week to get a better idea of what I need to do. Hopefully work will slow down enough so I can read it, as I didn't get much of a chance to read today! I'm going to plan menus with one of my co-workers who wants to start Atkins too so I'll be able to go shopping for the foods I'll need. I plan to start actually doing Atkins the beginning of next week right after my weigh in next Monday. I'm really hoping Atkins will work for me because I'm just so sick & tired of feeling as tired & physically miserable as I do. When I read the intro to the book it sounds like the "before" person they describe is me in a nutshell so at this point I'm willing to give it a try.
I'm probably going to need a lot of help from you Atkins people, especially next week when I get started, so get used to the idea that you may be seeing a lot more of me around here! :teeth:

Hi!
I am losing weight very slowly and would like to know what plan you were on.
I am trying to do weight watchers on my own, and it just not working for me.

I am also going to curves. Wondering if I should try Atkins, too.

Lisa

Lisa, I've been following a plan I got from my DR when I had my gallbladder out in Jan. I have lost a total of 14 lbs since Jan 6, 6lbs in Jan before I found WISH, but only 8 more lbs since then. I've been stuck at my current weight for about a month now, maybe even longer, so I figure Atkins is worth a try. I really want to lose all this excess weight I'm carrying around so I feel healthy instead of always feeling tired & run down like I do now. I need to do something before I get discouraged & give up. I have a lot to lose, so that would not be a good thing for me.
Good luck to you with whatever plan you decide to do. Stick with WISH - the encouragement I've gotten here has been what has kept me going up to this point, and the successes I've seen here are what has motivated me to try Atkins.

Hi, Nancy. Your clipart reminded me of when I met you at the WL at DISCON 2 I think it was. :)

I have quite a bit to lose as well. I've been on Atkins for 16 days now and just broke the 10 lb mark this morning. I kind of expected to lose more the first two weeks, but I kept on being good and it finally paid off.

The best part is how I feel. I have more energy, I don't seem to have those highs and lows anymore, and I just feel better.

I hope Atkins is the answer for you. We're going to be at WDW next week, so I won't be here to help support you, but I'll be sending positive thoughts your way.

Lisa :)

Whatever you need Nancy. You can PM me if you have any questions...Induction is pretty straight forward, but sometimes you can be unsure.

Good Luck on your "switch". And my advice is to start slowly with increasing you fat..if you haven't had any in a while...sometimes it takes a while for you body to adjust when you don't have a gallbladder.

Thanks, Luvinit, you may be hearing from me once I really get into the book. I'm sure I'll have questions. I know all you WISHERS will be there for me when I need you.
LisaTx, thanks for the encouraging news. 10 lbs in the 1st 16 days would be so awesome for me, and I especially liked how much better you're feeling. DIS-CON 2 was awesome, wasn't it! You must have met us the day we had the tee shirts on that my clip art picture was taken from. :teeth:

Nancy,

Hurrah for you doing your homework ahead of time! Reading the book (or at least the first sections and the chapters on Induction and OWL) is very important before starting. Too many misconceptions about how to do this floating around out there to just "wing it". I also applaud your shopping and stocking up on the right foods to stock your fridge before you start. The key to success with induction is to ONLY eat what is on the allowable lists (paying attention to items that are allowed but limited - such as cheese, cream etc.) - but to EAT!!! This is so incredibly important. It helps with the transition from burning glucose as your primary fuel to burning FAT as your primary fuel. This is really hard for alot of folks to do... especially coming off of a low fat/high carb eating plan. Once ketosis is firmly established your appetite will naturally diminish... but during induction, it is very important to eat when you are hungry.

WISHing you success!

Yes, your clipart reminded me of your T-shirts that were so cool. :)

I picture everyone by their clipart. Except for Katholyn. :D For some reason I just don't picture her as a hulaing Daisy Duck. ;)

Good luck w/your new nutrition plan. I agree with the other poster that you should stick to induction and eat when you are hungry. Remember that some people suffered from withdrawal symptoms (headaches, flu symptoms) on day 2-3, so don't let that stop you.

I'm here to support you when you need it. You are welcome to PM me anytime. :)

Nancy, I had a little panic attack when I read the title of your thread! You silly goose, you are not giving up at all...you are just embarking on a new plan of attack! Good for you for taking a step back and thinking this through! I am in the process of doing the same thing. I need to come up with a formal eating plan, rather than just trying to do 1200 calories per day. I have thought about Atkins, but I don't think it would be right for me. I am doing my research now, and I know I will find something that will be right for me. Sometimes we need to experiment with our eating and exercise plans to get the right fit!

Linda

Hi Nancy!! Welcome to the Wonderful world of Atkins!;)

Okay, well I'm embarrassed :o Should I edit my reply on the check in thread.

I can't help but get excited, Nancy. You've made a breakthrough! I get excited when my friends make breakthroughs. Aren't you excited?

You identified the problem and you are taking steps to correct it. That is truly success. Good for you. Find the plan that works best for you and then stick with it. Way to go!

Atkins has worked well for me. I hope it works well for you, too, because it's the easies eating plan I've ever followed.

Remember, if you have been eating low fat when you begin Atkins you are likely to lose very slowly. You still have a week though before you start, perhaps the effects of low fat will be gone by then.

I'm just so proud of you, sweetie. You tried very hard with the other plan and you had success but you were losing very slowly. Changing eating plans is a very wise thing to do. Besides, I can't help but believe that Atkins is going to make you healthier. I know it is saving Wilgus's life.

My job finally started to slow down today, so I was finally able to start doing some reading. Wow! The description of a carbohydrate addict fit me perfectly! :earseek:

All of you Atkins "losers" are really what inspired me to decide to give Atkins a try. I've known for a while now that it would probably be good for me, but I was resisting until now. It does seem like it will be a good fit for me, but I can't imagine not wanting some of my favorite foods - popcorn, pasta, potatoes & bread. For now, I'm going on faith that what all of you are telling me about your own experience will be true for me, too. I really am anxious to get started, but I want to get through this weekend first & start next week with a clean slate.

I do want to say out loud that I am really nervous about doing this. I'm just afraid I won't be able to stick with it, or for some unknown reason it just won't work for me. Saying I'm nervous out loud (well, here anyway) helps make me less afraid because I know you will all be here to support me if I need you. Once again, I'm going on faith. If it works for so many of you it will work for me, too. :teeth:

Hopefully it will be slow at work tomorrow so I can read some more. I really want to get that grocery list together because I know me well enough to know that being prepared will have a lot to do with how well I'll be able to stick to plan, especially at first. I do have a funny feeling that I won't be reporting a loss for this week when I post on Mon because I have been saying good-bye to some of my favorite carbs-in moderation-this week! :earseek:

Thank you again to all of you for all your support. :teeth:

Oh, Katholyn, you don't need to edit anything. I'm just really happy to have you here to support & motivate me, & to have you for a friend! :teeth:
