ok-i need your decision on my train time!?

right ,i`m booking my train tickets tomorrow morning for our travel from peterborough to kings cross for the eurostar,the outward journey is fine but on the fri eve when we return we have 2 choices of trains and the tickets we are booking are singles so which ever train we book on we have to get !!
So .....the eurostar gets in london waterloo at 8.28pm ,do we book for the 9.30pm or the 10pm at kings cross,personally i think we can get from waterloo to kings x in an hour but my freinds not so confident so i said i`d get an opinion from the experts!!!
someone must have gone from w/loo to kings x at that time as its the direct route time?
help!!!

If it was me I'd go with the 10 pm train simply because I'd sooner have time to spare as I've been caught out in the past.
I've never done a journey across London before so can't help you with times, although 1 hour does sound enough I admit.
I missed a train once with fixed tickets and had to buy replacement tickets on the day they were so expensive!!!!! So now I just prefer to play it safe!

Has the Eurostar ever been late arriving? That would be my other concern, although I'm sure it can't be as bad as UK train delays

Yes, it has arrived home late twice with us.

The first time a girl was taken ill and we had to detour to Lille so she could be taken to hospital, the second time there was snow in both France and Kent.

Both times it was late were understandable but I would play it safe and book for the 10 o'clock train.

thanks elaine,thats decided it for me,with the total party being 5 adults and 5 children between the ages of 9 and 2 i am not gonna be the one responsible for trying to get new tickets at that time of night!!

thanks for everyones help,we`ve booked the 10pm train and managed to get the 6.40am from peterborough so not too early!not bad either as for 5 adults 4 children and 1 infant its cost us £140 (inc the family railcard fee)we couldn`t have got the last adult on the railcard as you can only have 4 but by getting singles instead of returns it was only dirt cheap -the kids cost £2.50 each way!!!

We are coming from slightly further but the cheapest tickets are still available for our trip in March. For our group - 2 adults and 2 children (we already have a family railcard) it is going to cost us just under £100 So you have a great deal there!!

as a tip try going for 2 single tickets rather than returns as that knocked our price down quite a bit

This was the price with singles, worse luck. Using returns would have been almost £130.
If they want more people to use public transport they're going to have to change something! This was a direct train, no changes - Its crazy!

We find it almost works out cheaper for us to travel up the day before and spend a night in a hotel in London! We usually find our tickets cost about £77 return (2 adults and 3 children with a family rail card) whereas if we travelled up on the day itself they would cost about £200-£250!

We are travelling up the day before (off-peak) and stoping in London overnight because there was no train we could get to make the direct Eurostar as we're travelling to DLP on a Sunday. Ah well enough of a rant about the trains!


Its past midnight so I can now say Its only 8 weeks now til we'll be on our way!
