Ok...Guys....Tell me about both....Can you get sushi as an appetizer at Cali Grill?? I have Deluxe Dining Plan....

Citricos???

Help me choose....

Thanks!

I don't know how the Deluxe Dining Plan is used at either restaurant, we've only done the regular Dining Plan with California Grill. We've done both restaurants and they are both wonderful, you can't go wrong with either one! They are hard to compare because they each have a different vibe. I would look at the menus and see what appeals to you more, or go on atmosphere.
(California Grill being on top of the Contemporary, views are awesome, ability to see Wishes from the Observation deck, but it is more busy, louder *or* Citricos being a little more quiet, upscale feeling)

Enjoy whatever you decide!

I haven't ever used the dining plan either, but hands down I would pick california grill over citricos. CG Is delicious.. I can't wait to eat the spicy kazaan roll when I go in a few weeks. I was underwhelmed with citricos, but some would call me crazy for that!

you can indeed get sushi as an app i do every year and its some of the best the only one they don't let you get is yoshi sushi platter, and yes we use the deluxe dinning plan

I like both, but find Citrico's quieter.

Hey Yolie,

Well congrats on narrowing it down to 2....you are speaking to the guy who struggles to narrow down his signature options to anything lower than 7 or 8!

Having just had a deluxe dining plan trip for 2 weeks at the start of January, I would always go for the Cali Grille option over Citricos and that is mainly because of their amazing sushi, which on the DX Plan can be taken as an appetizer.

Only 2 of the sushi options aren't available to choose as an app. (deluxe platter and snake in the grass).

I am not adventurous with sushi, therefore I stick to tuna. However, the tuna 3 ways was absolutely devine. And the surf and turf roll (with seared beef and apple slaw) was the best thing I ate all holiday.

In terms of main course, I had the monchong with stirfried veg twice and the beef fillet. The steak was the best all holiday although only because I loved the sauce and general accompaniments. Le Cellier fillet was of equal quality in my opinion, but wasn't as keen on the risotto as I'd hoped.

The monchong was amazing but I had to ask for it medium well, as it is so fresh that the middle part of this white meaty fish can be served rare.

Pudding was always to die for, the melted middle of the chocolate is again the best I have ever eaten! The double apple tart was also impressive (although I believe this is seasonal).

Having eaten at Citricos in the past, there was always something I enjoyed over all 3 courses in a very pleasant and relaxed atmosphere. It just doesn't quite shout out at me as much as Cali Grille because there are less options over all 3 courses for myself and my partner. I feel at Citricos that I can only choose one or 2 things per course. At Cali Grille I love the idea of the pumpkin soup, the flatbreads and the sushi's......and that is all before the main course and puddings!!

Hope this helps, sorry for any babbling on!

Have a great time and enjoy the most amazing food,

Dean

Wow! Thanks so much for your very detailed review. I appreciate everyone's opinions....=) Cali Grill it is....:cool1:

Def Citricos!

We did both in Nov 2010 (tons of pics in my thread) and Cali Grill was such a disappointment to us but Citricos was out of this world fantastic!

This is why I love dis so much for all the different experiences, opinions and tastes. Without the sushi option at cali grille (and the fact that the menu seems designed perfectly for my tastes....therefore not always applicable to everyone else who dines there) then I would be closer to 50/50 between the 2. Try to do both!!!

I'm confused... did you mean you ordered it medium rare? I didn't ask for it to be cooked one way or another... but it was cooked through. Did you get the Monchong more toward rare at all? How was it?

Both Citricos and California Grill are great. If on the Deluxe, do you have room to book both? The sushi and monchong was why I wanted to book Cali Grill, but DW chose it because of the filet of beef. The menu is subject to change but saw the monchong online and was happy it was still on the menu.

We liked Citricos in 2009, like others said.. a quieter more formal dining experience. Always great to visit the Grand Floridian in the evening too.

Love the Spicy Kazan roll, but for overall dining experience, I choose Citricos.

Any way to swing both? They are both great, and very different experiences. Can you cut something else to make room?

If you can't swing both then Calif. Grill over Citricos, but you really can't do wrong no matter what one you pick in my opinion.

You may want to read the dining reviews here when trying to decide. :disrocks:

We prefer Citrico's for the quieter atmosphere and better food.

We've eaten at Citricos four times. Two of the times were great, two were "so so." The last time was so underwhelming that we won't be going back any time soon. We've eaten at Cali Grill three times, and it is now our favorite restaurant on site. The food is awesome (except the Filet, go for something else), especially the sushi, and as others have said, all except the top two or three in price are available as apps on the deluxe plan. The flatbreads (also available as apps on the deluxe) are also great for those crazy people who don't like sushi. :) The next time we go to WDW, we're hoping to stay at the Bay Lake Tower (DVC), and if we do, we're going to hit Cali Grill twice that trip.

We've done both, several times. The last few times we weren't impressed with Cal Grille at all. They added more tables so they are closer together. It is noisy compared to Citricos (we don't mind the noise, but we're not too thrilled touching elbows with other tables). The food has progressively gotten less unique. The service has also gotten harried, I guess because of the number of tables per server. We felt it definately was not worth 2 credits. Being there during Wishes is nice, but again, so noisy that you really can't enjoy the effect of the show.

Citricos is more elegant, less crowded, quiet, and the service is more personal, probably because of the lower occupancy. We found the food to be more like Cal Grille used to be, unique, great presentation. I'm still not sure it is worth 2 credits (do you get an appetizer on the deluxe?), but I would have to choose Citricos over Cal Grille.
