OK so I signed up for a put a deposit on my direct GFV for 150 points. I already added on 150 SAPs @ VB this year, so this new contract will have me at 450. I can’t help but think I should buy VDH! Looking at availability right now it’s nada..zip..zilch fir the next few months. I frequently go to DL and don’t want to be scrounging like I do currently at GCV. Sigh… why am I even considering this?? Is it because I have a bonus on the horizon? Please talk me off the ledge!

Re: VGC, are you looking at studios or 1BR/2BR?

The availability tables seem to show good availability at VGC for the larger villas.

As far as VDH, I think the walk might bother me after staying in VGC.

If I were to want a studio, I think I'd be more likely to try to buy 75 points or so at VGC.

VDH will still be for sale next year, I’d wait till I paid MFs on all those new points & wait until that bonus was in my pocket before I committed to buying yet another batch of points, but I’m a cautious type.

Honestly I dont even look at VDH as a purchase object. The Transient tax makes it too expensive in my opinion.

The tax alone is $35 - $112 on a deluxe studio per night booked. Thats insane.

Should I add on at CA it would be at VGC.

I think DLT is a much better buy than anything else for sale direct. IMO, it will hold value, which isn't what WDW restricted properties have done.

If you want to go to DL, I don't see why you would be buying VGF right now. Either VCG, or DLT while you can still get it.

I think you are not crazy enough !
Buy the fixed guaranteed week !
Is it too late to cancel your other GFV point purchase ?

I go to DL once a year or less, so there’s no need to own lots of points there. I bought GFV because it’s a better incentive. VGC is ridiculously overpriced imo, so that’s not an option. I don’t like the theming of VDH at all, nor do I like the tax…and…. I just realized while typing this reply why I bought VGF and not VDH 😂😂

Oh no I’d never cancel my current contract.. I’m thrilled with it.. I’d be buying another one. But I decided to stick with what I’ve got for now.

Great advice! I’m comfortable with what I have and can wait and see if VDH makes sense.. so thank you for the reminder it’ll still be here..very true and helpful. I’m not the cautious type obviously lol so I appreciate your view.

As an aside, my bonus is guaranteed, so it’s easier for me to plan (spend) it in advance. Unlike a discretionary bonus, it’s coming at a minimum $ amount on a specific date like clockwork, so I can comfortably use it for my DVC addiction 😂. That being said, and being more responsible, I will wait and see. Maybe next year at this time would make more sense than speculating now?

The temptation is real. Makes a nice set when holding different locations!

But if it’s not really pulling you whole heartedly? Give it time. Better incentives may come along. In 5 yrs maybe resale price is extra tempting. Maybe another DL DVC is announced.

The buy-in cost, tax, dues, point charts of VDH has ended up actually increasing demand for VGC resale so not following your logic.

Right, both are expensive. Those are the choices for DL, and there won't be more anytime soon. VGF is on the wrong coast. But apparently OP doesn't need DL points, so back to VGF? My logic is to buy at DL if you want to go to DL.

I think it will always be hard to book DLH inside of 7 months just like VGC. But before that I would anticipate studio availability will be good once the whole resort is open.

I think it'll be hard but also it should still be easier than it was before because they essentially added a couple hundred more studios. I'm wondering if what we're seeing is all pent up demand from the lack of other DVC options besides VGC and in a couple years eventually it'll improve. Most DVC owners are east coast based and I'd bet for most of them DL doesn't become a regular thing just because of the cost of the flight and travel time. I'm not saying it will be easy to get in later on but I do expect things to improve in the long run.

You mean at seven months? Yes, I would agree, which will hopefully in turn improve Grand Californian availability just that little bit.

I do think for owners, the home resort exclusive window will not be difficult for studios at all.

Yep at 7 months. Plus I imagine some of the owners will feel like they have an incentive over time to use the points at WDW just so they can skip paying the transient tax for a year and use the money on a flight instead.
