I don't get the giving them your keys thing. I've bought 2 new cars and have never given anyone the keys to my car. Maybe because the salesmen went on the test drive with me???

You frequently have to give them the keys to your trade so they can evaluate its worth. They will check the car out and take it for a test drive.

We buy private party mainly and never have done a trade in. I have never experienced what you guys have. Yikes.

I will keep this thread in mind when I finally buy my new car one day, literally.
