Ok, I have to ask...

Why do people care so much if an older child is in a stroller? I mean - 10 and up...yeah, that is a bit strange, BUT why do you care so much? I have seen it posted here so many times that it is ridiculous for older children to be in a stroller - WHY? Just because they are in a stroller at Disney does not mean that they are going to be lazy or unhealthy. I can't figure it out...

Can't answer your actual question cause it doesn't bother me how old they are. What bothers me is that Disney doesn't make a stroller big enough to hold ME....my kids have enough energy to be able to push even at the end of the day, why don't they make a wide model stroller for tired moms? Don't want a wheelchair or EVC, I want to be shaded and reclined!

I totally agree, aribelle! I don't know how many times I pass a child looking all comfy in a stroller and remark to DH "Wish that was me!" Ah one can dream....

I don't get that either. If your kid needs a break from walking, go for it. Heck, sometimes I wish *I* could take a ride in one for awhile!

I'm guessing that some people think the parks would be easier to get around in if there were fewer strollers. Me, I would rather see a happy child in a stroller than an exhausted one, crying their eyes out, being dragged around by the hand.

I can't say that I really care, but I do notice and have to admit that my first thought is usually along the lines of, "there's a reason Americans are the fattest people on the planet."*

*I'm fat. I'm also pretty lazy. I think that my lack of physical activity started in childhood and being forced to be active, even if it meant simply walking, would have given me better habits.

A child needs to be encouraged to be active every day of their lives. A week taking breaks here and there in a stroller covering miles and miles of WDW is not going to make the child lazy or fat. My 5 year old will have the option of a stoller so that she'll be a happy and rested kid for our vacation!

There's a big difference between a 5 year old and a kid who is pushing middle school age.

I don't see a problem with it at all somewhere like WDW, where a child walks like 10 miles in a day. In fact, DH and I have agreed that if DD7 gets tired enough, we'll make Miss Independent chill out in a stroller when we go.

That depends on the child. My then 11yr old, petite niece had a hard time keeping up with her very tall daddy during our last group trip to Disney World. She was going thru a growth-spurt, and her legs hurt her to begin with. Add to that that she was trying to keep up with a man whos legs are much longer, and the fact that she had to take 2 steps to his every 1. It was much easier on her (and on us) when she just hopped in the double stroller with her younger sister.

Not every situation is the same, and more people need to keep in mind that they don't know the whole story before they make snap judgements.

My 9 and 11 year olds are active, very active, every day. One is a gymnast and one plays basketball. I hardly think that one of them hopping in the 3 yr olds stroller for an hour or so a day while on vacation is going to make them fat, and make them fat adults. I dont buy that line.

Count me in for someone who would LOVE a mom sized stroller!! I run marathons every year, and Disney STILL takes it out of me!!

My step kids are going to be 9 and 6 on our trip this summer...and you can bet we will have a "kid transporter" every day!! (that's what WE call them!!)

Disneyworld is HUGE. It's miles and miles of walking...usually in extreme heat and humidity...most kids will be zapped by that. My step kids play on competitive soccer teams and swim teams. They are buzzing with energy from dawn till dusk...but they are thankful for that seat to rest in when we are at Disney. It also helps everyone stay together when crowds are crazy!

I don't know why some people get their knickers in a knot over other people's kids in strollers. Your kid doesn't want to use one? FINE...don't rent one...but don't lets be ugly to those who do.

I don't personally care how old a child in the stroller is...that's up to parent who knows that child the best.

That being said, I think the issue to those who are against it (again, I amm for it please don't flame me) is that it appears that the parents are dragging around an already exhausted child around the park. They view the older child in the stroller as if the parent were a commando parent who is trying to do as much as possible without allowing the child a break in the day, and instead just throws the child in the stroller and moves on.

Again, this is not the opinion I espouse, but I think that this may be what at least some people are thinking.
