Does anyone know know the percentage of how many people have the cheapest annual passes vs the next step up? I'm looking at the end of June. The cheapest passes will be blocked then but the next step up will only be blocked that Friday and Sat of our hopefully 5 day stay. I would try to do a Wed.-Mon thing but it would be more difficult for my husband to start vacation in the middle of a week and there is a grad night thrown in that Thursday. Im fully expecting it to be the busiest we've ever seen, we always go off season. It's ok once in our lives though. It's when my husband's family goes and we are taking my daughter and her husband who will be newlyweds, it's our present to them.
It would be nice though to be able to compare those 2 passes to see what exactly we are getting ourselves into and how important it would be to try to aim for days when both passes are blocked. Anyone know where I could find numbers of how many people have each type of passholder?

We were there last weekend and the Sunday was the first day back for Deluxe (and the expensive SO Cal one I think...) and it was mobbed. That was the first day back though - I don't guess it is like that every day.

FWIW, there's no huge chunk of time that Deluxes are blocked other than the week from xmas eve to NYE. It's basically just weekends, and in August it is just the first three Saturdays that were blocked.

My understanding is that at least 90% of AP holders at DLR are of the SoCal variety. Which means most AP holders are affected by blockouts in the summer and at other times.

There are two Socal APs, then Deluxe after that.

We went this year from June 24th-July 1st. When we arrived the first Socal AP was already blocked, but not the second. It was CROWDED. Let me say it was not nearly as crowded as it was when we went on New's Day and the day after. (those days are blacked out for all APs but the premium now so maybe they will be better this year)

Anyway, it was still plenty crowded before the last blockout in June. Then our Deluxe APs were blocked on Sat. so we didn't go. On Sunday we went and the difference was huge! The rest of that week so much less crowded than the week before. We couldn't believe how nice it was. This led me to the conviction that next year we will not go before all the Socal APs are blocked out. If you are used to going during very off season, you might not realize there is a difference and you still might think it is crowded, but to us it wasn't. If possible, I would recommend trying to get at least some of your DLR days after the blockout. It really is worth it.

Hope that helps. Not sure I was able to explain it right. :)

Thanks for your responses--that gives me a much better idea. From what I know of grad night-- it's not too bad, just closes a little earlier. If we made that our first night then we'd be tired from driving all night anyway and we could even do the magic morning that day to make up the difference. Just avoid getting wet because of 4 pm HOJO check in lol.

No, they don't share those numbers, but you could go to the AP section of the website and check the blackout days that they have up for the So Cal, So Cal Select & Deluxe APs for next year. I was able to view thru July a couple nights ago. FYI, almost EVERY Saturday is blocked, even for the Deluxe APs. Which just cements that we won't renew next year because we go down for weekends all the time...that won't work if we are blocked!

I don't have any numbers but I will answer you question based on personal experience. I went 2 years in a row the week after cheapo so cals were blocked out but not the next step. We went Mon/Tues and once Thurs/Friday. It was NOT that bad. If you get in early follow hydroguys tips you will have a nice time. I thought it would be crazy packed too but it wasn't. Friday evening was busy but I expected that.

Wow, that's when we went and we thought it was still pretty crowded even with one Socal AP blocked out. My friend went the week before when none were blocked out and she said it was really crowded then, so I'm sure that was worse. Even though it was really crowded we never waited longer than 20 min for anything because we made good use of FPs. The biggest difference for us, was the line for TSMM got a lot shorter after the last blackout. Before that, the line went across the walkway and along lagoon for over an hour wait.

Pixie, that just means you need PREMIUM APs! :rotfl:

From our experience this year, the days before the passes are blocked out were extremely crowded and very frustrating. Unfortunately it was not just the southern california passes that added to the crowds but also the hundreds of busses bringing in jr high and high school kids.
I never imagined that there would be crowds like that. We have deluxe passes but we still had to have our hands stamped on two of the days so that we would be allowed back into Disneyland. We were told when we parked in Mickey and Friends that they were expecting to reach capacity. I hope that next year won't have the same scenario but I know for my family we will try to avoid June if it is possible. I would say if it is possible to avoid the two days before their passes are blocked out you would probably enjoy yourself more.
