Ok...We are leaving Mass on a Friday morning, about 3am...We planned on driving about 15 hours and stopping and sleeping in Georgia..WELL, checking our AAA map, it appeared that HH is only 30 minutes off 95...I called, and thats true..SO, our first night, we are staying at HH!!! We are psyched...Then, driving the next morning for WDW..We decided to stay at HH again for the return...SO, thoughts, AND, question to those that have driven...Is 3am good, and is 15hrs about right to get to Savannah?

I think you can reach HHI somewhere around 6 - 8 pm. We leave our home for HHI usually around 4am and live in southernmost part of NY, it takes us 12-14 hours to reach HHI (its 800+ miles from Staten Island) depending upon weather, traffic & number of stops. Leaving at 4am helps us avoid morning rush hour traffic in Baltimore / DC / northern Virginia area. We try to make any stops "all purpose" gas-restrooms-bite to eat; this saves a good deal of time and cuts down on number of stops. From HHI to WDW it's about 5 - 6 hour drive. We often stay at HHI both driving to and from WDW. It's our favorite way to do it. You'll have a great time there, DVC resort is awesome !

It takes about 18 hours to get to HHI & that's without stopping for gas/food & accounting for traffic. I would plan on at least 20 hours. Also keep in mind that after driving all that way, 30 minutes off the highway doesn't sound all that wonderful anymore. We thought about it once & changed our minds once we got down to the Carolinas.

Also you might want to consider avoiding most of 95 & going 90 to 84 & back over to 95 once you get into VA or the Carolinas. It is a longer route, but significantly faster because there is virtually no traffic. That is the route we almost always took when we drove.

90 to 84 in CT? Is that the route that avoids the GWB? Where in Mass do you leave from?

Yes it completely avoids the NY city area & Washington DC. You go 90 to 84 to 81 to 77 down through Columbia, SC to 95 which still brings you in north of HHI, if you do want to stop there.

We leave from the North Shore so we go 128 south down to the Mass pike.
