I am planning to take a group of middle school aged students to DW and can't decide on which month to go. May 20th or October 20th. (when the kids get out of school or at fall break) I have really got to get on the ball to make a May trip so please give me some feed back!

October will most likely be cooler and dryer, and the crowds a bit lighter. Waiting, too, will give you more time to plan.

October will also give you the Halloween parties, which are at both Disney and Universal. The disney one is more of a family-oriented party where the Universal one is more adult-oriented.

May will give you the Star Wars Weekends and the Flower and Garden Festival.

Although I am going in May just for the Star Wars weekends, depending on the makeup of your group, this may not be very enticing.

If it were me, I would plan for an October trip to give the parents 5 more months to get the money together, giving the kids time to fundraise for the trip.
