I'm reading through this website "party through the parks", and come across references - complete with pictures -

packages of mealworms and crickets as tasty snacks!

So... anyone actually try these?

Would this be at HHN by any chance? I don't think I've ever seen packages of mealworms and crickets, however real or not, at Universal during regular days.

They sell them in the Jurassic Park River Ride guest shop, also in MiB gift shop.

They're "flavored" like potato chips, so you're really tasting the powder on them (I think I had "cheezey" or something like that, think Cheetos). Crickets are kind of like styrofoam, with a slight crunch. Otherwise, it's just protein, wasn't a big deal to me.

According to this website, it's daily. Not just special events. Scroll down the 1st link to the bottom of the page. Most of the way down for the 2nd link.

"...this location is really an excuse to talk about eating mealworms, aka "Larvets", which, incidentally, aren't even at the stand, they're in the nearby Jurassic Park gift shop next to the cash register. The small boxes contain about 15 meal worms and come in your choice of cheddar cheese, mexican or BBQ. Here's the shocker, they're actually delicious! They're crispy and crunchy and have very little flavor besides the cheese, mexican spice or BBQ.

Once you get over the fact that you're eating bugs these are actually a lot like potato chips. Need another reason to try them? How about that they're a good source of low calorie protein? Or how about that America is one of only a handful of countries on Earth that doesn't consider bugs a normal part of its diet? The only "catch" in my mind is that they're a little addictive and crazy expensive at $2 a box."

Mentally, logically - my head gets that. And part of me kind of wants to try. But I don't think I really could.

:thumbsup2 to those who do. I wish I was more adventuresome.

I was just going to post where I have seen them and no we have not tried them.

I would rather eat crickets and mealworms than a nasty Turkey Leg! :stir:

Son tried the crickets last month. He was doing okay until he got a leg stuck between his teeth. Thank goodness for the cheap drink refills! We still have half a box left at home.

I think they also have some (ironically) at the San Francisco Candy Company.

I don't think I could ever force myself to try them.

My kids just did a famine at church and they were selling mealworms and we paid $10 bucks for about 1 oz for each packet. So $20 bucks for fishing worms. :)

The leaders said that these and other gross foods are foods that other countries eat when nothing else is available.

We have eaten the worm in the lollipop and the bottom of the bottle--just sayin'

We did the City Chase a couple of years ago (think fear factor & ultimate race combined, but locally in the city - if you have this in your city, you should totally check it out....its SO fun), and one of the challenges that my hubby had to partake in was to eat one LIVE cricket for every question we got wrong on a questionaire at one of our stops....he ended up eating 5

I think if it was flavoured or dipped in chocolate, he would probably take it any day over eating live ones...however, count me out. I was gagging at the sight of him eating the live ones. IF I was starving, lost in the wilderness, or in a situation where there was just nothing else available, I would do it because my body wouldn't care at that point....but when I have an option, I'll pass. I am willing to try different foods, as long as its within reason!

I thought about buying some on our trip for my roommates stocking stuffers. Is that mean? It's not mean right?

My mom used to say "if you'd grown up a cannibal, you'd eat people." So yeah, once you get past the psychological hang-up, no big deal.

I'd like to think I was brave enough to have a nibble... however I own 2 bearded dragons & a chameleon who eat crickets & mealworms and after seeing bits of leg fly out of their mouths it kinda puts me off.

Never saw them at Universal though.... then again I wasn't exactly looking.
