I have a 4 yr old DD, and she is about to share a room with her 2 yr old sister. They have an old master bedroom, so there is 2 closets and a half bath. They will be sharing a full size bed. The bedding is a quilt from Pottery Barn Kids. Any ideas on how to make their room special? I really don't go with themes, though for the half bath it will be Disney Princess. I need color ideas too, their furniture is white.

Also the reason for sharing is their brother is going to need a room. Any ideas on how to do a boys room? His furniture is Honey Oak.

One more thing, how would you do a main bath for 2 girls and a boy? I want to make it fun.

I need ideas and creative minds.

The shared bath for all three children: what about an undersea theme? Or water/beach cottage feeling?

I'm not big on themes, and my personal style tends to be contemporary with a touch of eclectic. In other words, I have some nice antique and family pieces mixed in with the more contemporary stuff! *LOL*

What is in the rooms that can't--or probably won't--be changed (cost is a factor!). Usually the flooring and hardcase goods. In the bathrooms, also the tile.

For your daughters' room, you've already selected the bedding and you know the furniture is white. Pull the colours out of the bedding and go from there. Don't forget to ground the lighter colours with a bit of dark or deeper colour. What do they both like besides Disney princesses? And what will coordinate with the Disney princesses? If the bathroom opens into the bedroom, you'll want to coordinate the colour/patterns so it isn't too busy.

For your son's room, begin with the flooring and furniture colours. Then select bedding that will coordinate or contrast, whichever you prefer. Then pull the colours and feeling from the bedding, just as you will do for your DDs' room.

BIG decorator here! :hyper:

I also try to avoid themes but it's good to pick some overall style that you want to work from (classical, girly, contemporary, etc). Again, think of a style, not a theme. Do you have window treatments picked out yet? If you could post a pic of the bedding and maybe even the room that would be fantastic, now then I could give you some ideas. For wall color, try picking out a "supporting" color from the quilt. I usually like to pick the third color in order from how frequently it is used, but I would just choose your favorite. Go to Home Depot or wherever you plan on buying your paint and get some chips of a few colors in it, then bring them home to see what you like.

For accessories, try going to a TJ Maxx/Home Goods (discount home furnishings, pardon me I have no idea what stores you have in OK) type place and see what they have for trinkets. They usually have some art and little tables that you can incorporate, just don't go to the point of tacky like my DH does. :headache: Try looking at Poshtots.com for some ideas. :thumbsup2

Do have chairs or tables or anything already? It's nice to get a big chair/loveseat to curl up in, you could take one from somewhere else in the house and put a slipcover over it if you're worried about cost (of course it you're not that changes everything ::yes:: ). Do you have a playroom or anything like that, or will these be their main "play place" other than the living area? Is there anything special like an activitytable that you would like to incorporate? This type of info should help me generate some ideas.

For your DS, do you have bedding picked out yet?

For the bathroom there are lots of possibilities. Do you have any special pictures of them at Disney, the beach or on a holiday that you'd like to hang up because that's a great place to start? I chose to do one bath in a sort of classical/victorian style because I had these goregous pics of my DD in black and white that looked really old-fashioned that I wanted to hang up. It's not overkill, I just went with some old-fashioned fixtures, a big gold mirror, light pink walls and subtle paisly shower curtain (along with the pics). More girly than anything. For the other I had some beach pics so I went with modern fixtures, blue walls, lots of glass and put out a bowl of shells (along with the pics once again). Since it's for the kids, I think it's great to have them as your inspiration. Just pull the colors/style out of the pics and go from there.

I can help you a little more once you have your basic ideas down/can see them. :thumbsup2

I painted the ceiling blue with clouds and glow in the dark stars! Cheap easy, and has lasted 2 kids.:duck:

I am redecorating my boys rooms at the moment too---giving them their own bedrooms thus this arduous process...What I have picked and will use for easy decorating is the photo wall murals. We have one already in the dining room, so I know how to set it up and everything and I think it looks stylish. They have many choices online for kids. I have picked one with a solar system and another with a world map. So I will just add accessories to those main themes in the rooms.

We are in the process of re decorating my DD4's bedroom too from the Pooh themed baby nursery to a big girl's room. At first we were going to do a white wainscotting on the bottom with pink (her fave colour for now and her choice) on top. But then we are reconsidering all that wood work for a much more simpler chair rail running along the walls, white paint below the rail and then painted wide stripes above it in two shades of pink. A light pink and a slightly darker shade of pink in about 8 inch wide stripes. We already have a a beautiful off white full sized princess sleigh bed. Unfortunately her dresser is natural oak from the nursery furniture, and we are not in a position to buy a matching dresser for her bed. Hopefully one day we can replace it. I hope to buy large white book cases (most likely from IKEA) to house all her books and little knick knacks. I am still in search of a pretty quilt for her bed, but will do that last and then decorate the rest of the room with little accessories to bring out the colours from the quilt. I can't wait to get started on this project, although a small part of me is saddened to see the nursery go. I still remember vividly decorating the room as a nursery. Good luck with your decorating...I'm sure your girls will love it.
