So, I call 407-WDW-DINE this evening to make some ADR changes.

I tell the CM that I have an ADR for a party of 7 at Coral Reef that I would like to change to a party of 4.

She says to give her a minute while she cancels it and rebooks it :confused3 Then she says, "OH NO, there are no openings for a party of 4 and if she cancels my ADR I will lose everything."

Uh, WHAT??? So you are telling me that the dining ressie system can't reduce/increase party size without cancelling the whole enchilada?? Stupid.

So, I kept my table for 7 even though there will only be 4 of us. See what I get for trying to do the right thing?? It just bugs me because someone else could have used the other 1/2 of our table as I am sure they just push two tables for 4 together.

IDEA: ANYONE LOOKING FOR LUNCH AT THE CORAL REEF ON AUGUST 31 AT 12:50?? WE HAVE ROOM FOR 3!!

We went with a party of 7 last year and we always sat at one big table. If that's the case they won't book an ADR for a party of 4 at a table that seats 8.

If it's anything like and airline reservation system she could be right. Example, You booked 4 seats on Flt 111 Atl to MCO Easter week. You need to cancel 2 seats off your reservation. Most of the time you can divide the reservation into the 2 seats to keep on one ressie and the 2 to cancel on another. BUT...if the seats are in a different fare class, you may have to completely cancel and then rebook the 2 remaining passenger. If other agents are looking at that flight, someone could book those seats in the second it takes you to cancel and reselect. It happened to me when I worked at Airtran and boy, it was a mess. I sthink the agent saw a full restaurant, and didn't want to take any chances of losing your spot. At least she didn't and kept your spot instead of cancelling it and losing you reservation completely. And if Disney uses any kind of system similar to Airtran's then yes, the system really can be that screwy.

I'm sure that the 3 seats will not be a major issue. There may be a walkup or someone who checks in 30 minutes early and needs a party of 2.

This issue was discussed recently on the DIS Pod Cast. You are lucky that you didn't loose your original ADR. Don't do the right thing. It only gets you into trouble. :flower3:

I think in this day and age Disney needs to have an on-line reservation system so people can book their own dining! I get tired of waiting on hold and then being disconnected. The Disers seem to know more about the restaurants when we call then a lot of the CMs.

Wow--that is just crazy. Thanks for the heads up. I was going to call today to downsize some of my ADR's. I would hate to lose my Coral Reef ADR's since I set up the diver for DS.

When I am sure I have my final ADR's, I will post some info here. Looks like I might have some extra room at some of my tables for people who won't mind sharing.

That is a flaw. I have a Biergarten for 8 and it looks like there will be only 4. I am not changing it. During free dining I probably will not be able to get anything else.

It's Biergarten, though, so they may seat another 4 people at the table since they have tables of 8 and parties share them. Some walkins may luck out.
