My family and I have been going 'round and 'round planning this 1st cruise...we recently booked RCCL--7 nights--Eastern and were thrilled. We discussed all of the pros and cons of RCCL and DCL and chose RCCL (mainly because of price at Spring Break).

Then yesterday, my 10 year old said: "What, we're not going on the Disney cruise?" I explained how we could go for more days for about the same cost as a 4 night DCL cruise, that RCCL had the great rock wall, inline skating, blah, blah, blah...He said: "But we have ALWAYS wanted to go on the Disney cruise!" I thought about it, talked it over with the family AGAIN...and promptly called Carol at Familydiscountcruises and changed my reservation!

We are now booked on the Wonder for April 11, '04--Spring break for 4 nights. The 7 night RCCL was going to cost about $4500. Now, our 4 night DCL cruise is about $3300! I know logically it doesn't make any sense at all...we could be on a brand new ship for 7 nights (Mariner of the Seas) and have all of the great perks but, we just had to do Disney first!

My kids really wanted to do a few days in the parks too, so we will be doing that as well! We live in California so it doesn't feel right going all the way to Orlando and NOT go to WDW!

Oh well...call me "goofyfordisney"!

Thanks for letting me share my long story!;)

It makes perfect sense. We know about all of the perks and things on the RCCL, but we are not interested in switching cruise lines. We go on one cruise a year now, and we always pick Disney! There is just nothing to compare to the 'magic' of Disney. You will love the cruise. It is wonderful!

DH and I went through the same thing last month when we were trying to decide which cruise to take DSs on next summer! DH and I just took a RCI cruise this summer and LOVED it, and considered taking DSs on a RCI cruise, but after researching both cruise lines, checking out their teen programs (both DSs will be teens by next summer), comparing cabin sizes, etc, DH and I both agreed 100% to do the Disney cruise. We started out with the 4 night cruise but then within a week or so decided to change to the 7 night western caribbean, and that's what we have booked for next summer :)

I can't say that all of our cruises will be on DCL because we live near Boston and love the idea of being able to cruise out of Boston or New York and not having the fly, but for our first *family* cruise, Disney won hands down!! :)

P.S. Our DSs didn't have a say in it because it's still a surprise to them, but I KNOW they'd both choose a Disney cruise!

In 1999 we cruised 4 nights with DCL--then they had only the MAGIC.
In 2000 we cruised 7 nights on the MAGIC Eastern Caribbean.
In 2001 we had a perk when we bought a timeshare so got 4 nights on one of the older RCCL ships--Majesty of the Seas.
Based on that almost-free experience, we SAVED and went on the new western itinerary on the MAGIC in the fall of 2002.
No comparison to our way of thinking. Disney is a 10 while RCCL was a 7.
Two adults, no children--wonderful cruise :)

My post came up twice so I tried to delete one and it would not let me, so I erased the second one and am explaining here what happened.
