I've been reading about people getting ill at HIFS. I have reservations there for next month. Just for comparisons sake, (I must say, I'm getting a little freaked here), anyone stayed at HIFS and NOT get sick???

Thanks
Laurie

HIFS appeals to families with small kids. Parents aren't going to cancel a vacation unless the kids are VERY SICK. One of the reasons people select HIFS is the free breakfast buffet. Buffets are notorious for transmitting germs.

Not sure a poll will help you much. The board of health would close them down if EVERYONE was getting sick.

I was there last week for 6 nights with son, sister, and mother and never got sick. I always go to Disney the last week of Jan. Last two years stayed in a house and my son was sick both times. I attributed his prior sickness to season, change of routine, the enclosed plane ride, etc. I have been to HIFS many times and nobdy has got sick while we are there. We do eat off the buffet and swim in the pool.

We have been to HIFS twice, once in Dec. '01 and last in Oct. '03. Stayed a total of fourteen nights, swam in the pool, ate at the breakfast buffet as well as a few dinners in the restaurant, and no one ever got sick.

We were there 1-14-04 to 1-21. No illness here. We also stayed there in Jan. 2003 and had no illnesses.

Friends stayed in August 2003 - no illnesses. Other friends stayed - Dec. 2003 - no illnesses.

I think sometimes people get sick while there and blame it on the hotel.

Viruses run rampant in this world. Look at how many people get to Florida - Planes and trains - small areas, lots of people = millions of germs. Even if you travel by car you have to stop at rest areas, gas stations, restaurants, etc.

I say go and have a good time, just remember to wash your hands at the parks. I always carry baby wipes with us when we travel, they are great for a quick clean up.

Something to think about. When was the last time the guns on Buzz Lightyear were disinfected?

Thanks so much for your reassurance in HIFS. You see, this is our ONE chance at Disney, and I want it to be perfect for our family. I guess I knew not everyone was sick, but to hear it from you guys sure makes me feel better. We have not changed our reservations, and we're looking forward to our trip. Thanks again!

21 days and counting.

You could carry some anti-bacterial hand sanitzer around with you. I love the Bath and Body Works kids foaming kind...I think it comes in tangerine, apple or blueberry scents, 4 for $10 and they're small enough to fit in your pocket.

Our whole family was standing in line on some stairs somewhere in Animal Kingdom last month. Dh and my 3 yr old ds were in front of us and both of them were mindlessly sliding their hands up and down the railings. The rest of us just cringed and laughed, and I couldn't get the hand stuff out fast enough, LOL.

Have a great trip!

I thought these did not kill viruses?

Isn't that what most colds/flus are?

Got his information from Purell's website:

Oct. 22, 2003 (AKRON, OH) – With the winter season upon us, anything you can do to help minimize the spread of germs that may cause illness makes sense. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends careful hand hygiene as the “first line of defense” against such germs, and says that “common-sense measures” such as “cleaning your hands often using either soap and water or waterless alcohol-based hand sanitizers removes potentially infectious materials from your skin and helps prevent disease transmission.”

Alcohol-based PURELL, America’s #1 brand of instant hand sanitizer, is an important tool for effective hand hygiene. PURELL has been tested against a wide range of germs and has been proven to be 99.99% effective in killing most common germs that may make you sick.

Kaiser Heath Centers and Hospitals also use a Purell type handcleaner. This year with the out break of influenza the clinics, ER and Hospital have set out containers for anyone to use. But Especially those with a cough, there are instructions every where to cover your cough and then santize your hands so you don't spread germs.

I think another thing you can do to keep well is to have a
Water Plan!!
The water in Florida smells and tastes like sulfer!! WDW sells bottled water for $2.50 each for a small bottle!!That can be a real budget buster!! SO a Water Plan is necessary. Here are some of the solutions That have been posted

1. Buy water filtering Britta Sports bottles.

2. If you Drive bring cases of your Favorite bottled water from home

3. Flying, Buy bottled water at Walmart near All Stars.

4. Send cases of your Favorite bottled water to your WDW Resort
