Ok..another Rookie question

Ok..as some of you have seen from me before...I am considering buying a resale contract for about 50-80 points, because I usually do DW every other year so could bank and borrow to get a weeks stay. I also travel mostly in Feb-Mar time frame due job. I have noticed in resale the only DVC local with that type of points available is VB. Since I can use points anywhere (correct?) why wouldn't I buy VB home points and then use those points to stay at onsite locations? I am really not a beach person, so VB does not excite me. But, I never see small point sales for onsite hotels. Sorry for all the questions but I study extensively before jumping...Thanks for all your help..you guys have been great.

The biggest reason NOT to do that is being confined to the 7 month window. While that is not all bad, you would probably always be able to get into OKW at those dates, why would you want to pay the high dues of Vero to stay at OKW which has the lowest dues? I would keep looking for another low point contract on WDW property.

Hmmm.ok..now that leads to another question..each property has different levels of Maintenance fees? I was not aware of that..where are they the cheapest?

Well for one thing, I would not purchase Vero if you don't really want to stay there. The dues are higher than all the other resorts, so in the long run it's going to cost you more money. There were some rumors(and I stress rumors) a while back that Vero could be sold, not saying that it will ever happen, but if it did you couldn't use them for WDW. Have you contacted the resalers and let them know what you are looking for? Most of those type of contracts are scooped up before they hit their websites, so call them and tell them what you are looking for. Good luck, I'm sure others will chime in and tell you some other things to think about.

At your "home resort" (the one you buy points at) you get to make your reservations 11 months ahead. You get to make reservations 7 months ahead at non- home resorts. When you travel is also important. If you are a Vero owner and try to make take a vacation at a Walt Disney World DVC during a busy period you run the risk of not getting your reservation. The advice always given is buy where you want to spend the most time. Things might work out owning at Vero and staying at a WDW resort but why put yourself at the back of the line when trying to get reservations.Good luck!

To answer your question, OKW currently, and historically, has the least expensive annual dues. Recent improvements at he resort (new boat, new pool slide) could change that.

I suggest you do NOT buy based solely on dues, but rather buy at the location you enjoy the most and want to stay at most frequently. A resort, though unlikely, could withdraw from the DVC system, or for some reason DVC could restrict your use ONLY to the resort you own (again unlikely until the contract nears expiration). But look carefully at the "what if" scenarios and consider them in your purchase decision.

Dues are assessed "per point" and are different for each resort. They are set in late December. For 2004, the dues are:

VWL- $4.25
BWV- $4.25
