I need HELP!!!

We're having a 7th birthday party for DD in March. Her party is on the 11th and she has requested a St. Patty's Day theme (which I love that idea). I have already stocked up on tons of decorations from the dollar store, and Oriental Trading. But here are some of my thoughts...for which I need help implementing!!

I want to have a scavenger hunt to find the pot of gold. I'm hoping & praying that the weather will be decent & we can send the kids outside to look around. But what kind of clues can I give. I guess I'll have to have an ouside hunt and an inside hunt all ready to go, in case of bad weather. I was hoping that the adults could station themselves at certain points & then be available to read the next clue when the kids get there. Then the end result will be a pot of gold with foil wrapped gum & chocolates (I'm thinking in individual bags already so no fighting over who got more). Any ideas.....

Also, I bought paper with shamrocks on the border...any ideas for a clever saying to incorporate the birthday into it?

Any ideas for any other games? I am planning on having a make your own sundae even (with mint chocolate chip ice cream or other plain flavors) and I bought some make-your-own foam leprechaun kits from Oriental Trading.

What else can I do to keep them busy? How long should I have the party listed on the invite?

I really, really, really don't like to do home parties. I'd rather pay to have it somewhere else where there is someone else in charge, and someone else's mess to clean up ;) . But DS had one in September at home (easy to be outside) and so DD wants her friends to see her house too.

Whew, this turned out long. Sorry!! Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated!

You do want individual bags, that is certain. But why do you need adults to read the clues? 7-8 yo can read, just keep them simple. Or use pictures. When DS was 3 he went to a pirate party where the mom used yarn trailed around the yard, and each child rolled up his/her yarn until he reached his treasure.

Parties should be about 2 hours. That gives kids time for all the activities, cake, & presents.

What you have planned is all very time consuming. I don't really think you need much more. Go to Family Fun's website for other ideas though, if you want. If you google "St. Patrick's Day Party Activities" you'll come up with stuff too.

Try this website for party invitation sayings. All I can come up with is pretty lame: A little leprecauhn said X is turnig ___ and would like you to ...

Here is my advise make sure you have plenty of adult help for craft stuff and practice first. Craft projects can be time consuming. To keep the kids busy while waiting for all the others have coloring pages ready with plenty of crayons. Try http://www.kidsdomain.com for great ideas on all kind of stuff
there party and holiday ideas there. I use that site all the time.

You're right. That's a good idea. The kids can read the clues. Maybe I can just have an adult there to make sure they wait for all the kids to catch up to that point, you know? So there aren't a few way ahead of the rest.

Thanks to both posters for the links. I really like the coloring pages idea too. Hadn't thought of that.
