Ohhhh NO. It has begun!

There was a TV movie that was based on the song and I watched it because it was shot locally and my brother was in the crew. It was the most emotionally manipulative and depressing Christmas movie I've ever seen.

I love the song, but I can understand why it might make someone sad. I guess that's the good thing about the radio--you can just change the channel if you don't like the song. Like I do when the Christmas song with the "little toy trains coming from a sack carried by a man dressed in white and red, little boy don't you think it's time you were in bed" song comes on. I can't stand that one! :teeth:

Oh I love Little Toy Trains! Especially when Raffi sings it. I just like the hokey tune.

Well, as if the lyrics aren't bad enough, they throw a children's choir in there too.
::yes:: Makes it even more horrible, IMO!

I'm not a huge fan of Christmas music and this song just makes me want to vomit it's that schmaltzy.

If I have to listen to a Christmas song about a poor kid, I'd rather listen to Skip Ewing's "Christmas Carol". At least it's upbeat.

I was playing Santa Clause downtown on Christmas Eve
When a little girl of three or four climbed up on to my knee
I could tell she had a Christmas wish behind those eyes of blue
So I asked her what's your name and what can Santa give to you

She said my name is Christmas Carol, I was born on Christmas day
I don't know who my Daddy is and Mommy's gone away
All I want for Christmas is someone to take me home
Does anybody want a Christmas Carol of their own

Well all that I could say was Santa would do the best he could
Then I sat her down and told her, now remember to be good
She said I will, then walked away, turned and waved goodbye
And I'm glad she wasn't close enough to see old Santa cry

She said my name is Christmas Carol, I was born on Christmas day
I don't know who my Daddy is and Mommy's gone away
All I want for Christmas is someone to take me home
Does anybody want a Christmas Carol of their own

Early Christmas morning I got up and dialed the phone
And made a few arrangements with the County Children's Home
And they told me it would be all right to pick her up today
Now my little Christmas Carol won't ever have to say

My name is Christmas Carol, I was born on Christmas day
I don't know who my Daddy is and Mommy's gone away
All I want for Christmas is someone to take me home
Does anybody want a Christmas Carol of their own
Well Merry Christmas Carol
I love you, welcome home

I HATE the Christmas shoe song too! I actually find myself getting angry and irritated by it! :furious: To make matters worse, they actually made a stupid movie over that song. And the shoes were ugly.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who hates this song... it really has no place on the radio between Josh Groban's "Believe" and "Frosty the Snowman"(true story :sad2:).. it has a "good message" to it - but so does the story of how I got my old dog around Christmas and you don't see a song about that. x_X But seriously - it's hard enough coping with losses this time of year, even if they happened years ago, I don't think many people find joy in listening to this song.

I also hate that "Met my old lover in a grocery store.. the snow was falling Christmas Eve".. that is the only mention of Christmas in there - it's about how they drank a 6 pack in his car and reminisced and how the woman doesn't love her huband... that is not a Christmas song! It doesn't make me feel merry, bright or any other positive feeling that is associated with Christmas music!

Isn't the Christmas Shoes guy the same guy who sang Butterfly Kisses? That wouldn't be surprising since both of them cash in on playing with emotion.

I agree! I don't like that song either. It's depressing, dragging, change the station song, etc.

I had never heard the "Christmas Shoes" song until last Christmas. We went to church that morning. It was only the 2nd time we had been to this particular church and the preacher's 8 year old dd sang that song. OMG, I nearly cried listening to it. However, as sad as it was I was really touched and that little girl could sing! I don't think I could hate it if I tried after hearing that little girl sing that. It made me very appreciative of what I have. I did not even know the song and now I really do like it. I guess I'm in the minority but that's okay. I can understand why it would be a downer and bother others. I think my perspective may be different because of how I initially heard it.

I like the song. It's definitely sad and not exactly something I would recommend for the office Christmas Party, but I don't think it's horrible either. It's just a song. And as someone else mentioned it just talks about the love between a little boy and his mom.
I have to be in a kind of somber mood already to want to hear it though.

LOL, I was going to post about how I hate that Dan Fogelberg song, but you beat me to it!

Gag me now.

We got a CD from Bath & Body Works that includes a song called "Hard Candy Christmas" that is both annoying and depressing - and is sung by Dolly Parton, which only makes it worse - and I can stand that one either. Thank God for skip/next buttons on CD players. Alas, the normal radio has no such feature - yet!

I don't want depressing songs for Christmas or any other holiday. If I want depressing I'll break out an old Boyz 2 Men CD or something, lol. But don't force it upon me in the mall or in my car - I'll do it myself if I feel like it.

I absolutely HATE that song! I can't stand that they try soooo hard to emotionally rape the listener.

I completely agree! I feel like that song is manipulative and I can't stand it. It seems like it was written to try to make people cry. It is just so contrived.
