I just saw the trailer for Pirates of the Caribbean 2! :cloud9:

I was wondering if any one else is leery of the fact that it is a sequel and sequels typically do not have a good track record. I can only think of two movies where I actually liked the sequel as much or better than the first. Aliens 2 and Terminator 2. I wonder if POTC 2 will disappoint?

Then again WTH am I saying, with Capt. Jack in it, who cares? ;) :teeth:

Orlando Bloom and Johnny Dep and you care whether it's good or not? They could stand around and look directly at the camera for two hours and I would pay to see it. :cloud9:

As a guy I don't have the same level of enthusiasm for the male leads, but I'd like it to do very well to uphold the legacy of one of Disney's finest attractions.:earsboy:

:rotfl2: :thumbsup2

That's funny! It reminds me of what Oprah used to say about Anthony Hopkins (Silence of the Lambs) and how she loved his accent so much that he could read her the newspaper and she would be thrilled.

I agree with her and with you!

ITA! ::yes:: :rotfl: pirate:

I think a movie liek POTC has a better chance of having a hit sequel because it is an action/adventure movie, not a drama. All those "Die Hard" movies did OK in sequels, KWIM?

I think the more "cerebral" movies, or ones that are not so action/adventure have a harder time in sequels, because you don't have the action to fall back on, so there has to be a lot of "meat" to the storyline.

If we think honestly about POTC I (and leave out our love for Johnny and Orlando ;) ) the movie itself wasn't all that great...it was the special effects, and the swashbuckling and the characterization of Capt.Jack that made it memorable. There's no big "message" in POTC (as opposed to a movie like Brokeback Mountain for example).

As long as Orlando and Jack are swashbuckling around, and Capt.Barbossa comes back from the dead, and there's some good pirate fights, the movie will be fine. It's fun...not rocket science.
