We are using Air Canada Aeroplan points to fly from Regina, Sask. (YQR) to MCO. We fly from Regina to Winnipeg on AC Jazz then from Winnipeg to Chicago O’Hare on United Express/Skywest. It looks like our flight will arrive at Terminal 2. We then must get to Terminal 1 for our connecting United/Ted flight to Orlando. As we’ve never been to O’Hare before, I’m wondering how easy is it to get from Terminal 2 to Terminal 1 at O’Hare? Will we have to go through any security screening again? Is it a short walk or will it take a few minutes to get to the United gate in Terminal 1. Fortunately we go through U.S. customs in Winnipeg so we won’t have to worry about our luggage. Any help/advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

It can be a long walk from a United Express gate in the "E" Concourse or "F" Concourse in Terminal 2 to a United Airlines or Ted gate in the "B" Concourse or "C" Concourse in Terminal 1.

The good news is that you can stay on the secure side, so you won't need to go through a security screening. Just follow the signs and make sure you don't exit from the secure side.

For terminal maps, see: http://www.flychicago.com/ohare/concessionsohare/TerminalMapsORD.shtm

Take a minute after you get off to check the map of the airport because there are moving walkways that connect a few terminals and they have shuttle buses now too between terminals but I can't remember which ones. O Hare is huge so you need at least one hour to comfortably move between terminals and then you will be moving.

When you are at O'Hare, pay attention to the signs for terminal transfers. They run buses between the terminals so that you don't need to walk if you don't want to. When you get off your plane, ask one of the United reps where the transfer point is terminal x. The transfer point is not always obvious. It seems to be a stairwell at one of the gates.

Just watch for the signs, If you dont you may go the wrong way- but it is clearly marked. How much time do you have between flights?

Excellent point! I had forgotten about the bus.

SaskDisNut,

If your Ted flight to MCO leaves from a gate in Concourse "C" then you can use a free shuttle bus between the concourses of Terminal 2 and Concourse "C" in Terminal 1. It's within the secure area. It would save a lot of walking.

See http://www.united.com/page/article/0,6722,1113,00.html

If your Ted flight to MCO leaves from a gate in Concourse "B" (as seems to be the case now), then it's a long walk, but not as long as to Concourse "C".

We've got an 1:15 between flights. I was looking at the arrival and departure info for both flights the other day and the United Express flight arrived at gate F1 and the TED flight left from B19. So it looks like we've got a bit of a hike. A small price to pay to get to Disney!! :woohoo:

Thanks everyone for your help! :disrocks:

The bad news is that TED has been exiled to the far B gates, and that the TED corral is often overcrowded and chaotic. Rarely are there free seats in that area.

The good news is that ORD and the B terminal have a lot of concessions along the way to the TED corral.

An hour and 15 minutes doesn't leave a whole lot of time between flights at different terminals at O'Hare. If your arriving flight is late, you can wave to all of the concessions as you rush by. ;) BTDT!

I do it all the time, albeit it not with children. I often have a 30 min connection bwn B and C gates, or less than an hour from the more remote terminals. And I still manage to find lunch or dinner most times. I fly through ORD at least 20-30 times/year, if not more.

There are a lot of takeaway places. It CAN be done.

LOL - true on doing it w/o kids, I didn't think about it that way. Or without my ex-MIL, who wanted to stop at every souvenir stand. :rotfl:

Coming from an airport with about 50 takeoffs and landings a day, O'Hare sounds like it will be an 'experience' for us. We've got 9 year old twins and they can run faster the we can! So we can hustle if we have to. I was hoping to be able to grab a quick bite before our MCO flight but I guess time will tell.

You can always take it to go and eat on the plane - it helps pass the time. ;)

We had 50 minutes to connect with our DD (5 at the time) - no problem whatsoever - had time to stop at Mc D's for Breakfast to take to the gate and still had some time for DD to do some moving sidewalk "laps"- Just follow the signs .

And thanks Bavaria - you answered this ? for us last year

I remember that!!! in the B gate area, one passes a Starbucks, Chili's to Go, McDonalds, a bagel place, a hotdog place, and a few other places along the way to the TED corral. Lots of choice for an onboard meal.

If you are REALLY pressed for time, the BOB on TED (buy on board meal box) isn't bad - I like the RiteBite, which has hummus, crackers, Toblerone bar, pita chips, etc. You can find the information on the United website.

Thanks, PrincessNED, for your first hand advice. For us, we've got an early flight, 6:30AM, from YQR to YWG. We've got a 4 hour wait in Winnipeg so I'll get filled up on my last Tim Horton's before we leave. Our ORD flight leaves Winnipeg @ 12:37PM.

I checked today's flight 1534, the same one we take, from ORD-MCO and it left Chicago 2 hours late. So, if that is the case next Tuesday, we'll be able to sample something from every concession place you listed, Bavaria!! I can see why the TED corral would be a chaotic place if flights are delayed often.

You'll have a great trip

Poor you - 4 hr layover at Wpg intl - you would almost have time to cab it over to St vital centre for some Disney store shopping

Theres a Tims right outside customs but not sure if they will let you through with one.

is it May 1 you are going? if so, I'll be setting up for a charity dinner just down the street. Likely won't get a chance to pop to the airport for a tims unless I pick up for the whole setup crew.

who knows - might see you there :confused3

Forgot to mention last post - We held onto our Magical Express baggage tags til after we cleared through customs inspection and then put them on just before putting the bags on for the conveyor - all bags arrived safely in the room. Great service ME is - except you can't pre check on your return flight - have to wait in line at MCO when coming back as final destination is international

Have fun !!

4 hours waits at airports are the joys of using Aeroplan out or Regina! Yes, we will be in YWG on May 1. And yes, I'll be hanging around Tim's for my last fix for 10 days. :cool1:

I've been wondering about this but have searched the board to no avail. For our return home we go to Denver first, then Calgary before returning to Regina. So I thought we might be able to do the resort check in since the first leg of the trip is domestic. Oh well!

Thanks again for all your help!
