Ohanna maybe we had an off night but..............

We ate there for the first night of our vacation in Nov. 2001. My SIL and I had heard so many great things about this place that we decided this would be the perfect kick-off to our vacation. We waited 2 hours for our PS and then the food was not that good. The meats were dry and tasteless. Everyone in our group of 9 was unimpressed. My DH couldn't believe how much I'd been hyping this place. We had wished that we had just gone back to the WL for counter service and spent our evening at the pool. We could have saved alot of money and would have had a much better meal.

A couple of nights later we walked into WCC without PS and were seated immediately. This meal was much better and much more enjoyable.

I'm glad to know that we aren't weird because it sometimes seems that we are the only ones who think O'hanas is way over-rated. We won't be eating there again.

We ate there this past July, and had good food and good service. Everything was delicious, our servers were prompt, but I personally DID find being called 'cuz' over and over again mildly annoying by the end of the meal.

I was actually thinking of trying 'Ohana again on our next trip because of all the positive reviews but I may reconsider.

We went on our first trip and had a not very good experience. Great window table but our server was so-so and the meat was overdone. We felt it really wasn't worth the money. I was kind of just hoping it was a bad night but for the looks of it maybe they have lots of "bad" nights.

Thanks for posting Mrs. Snowgod...I was raised in Hawaii and never heard that "cousin" thing growing up...(gee, maybe I missed something! :p) Anyway, if the service and food is good, I could probably ignore the mild annoyance of being called "cuz" all night...otherwise I might lose my mind!!

I'm going to keep following this thread. DH and I are having second thoughts about having dinner here. For those of you who have had a bad experience at 'Ohana--was the restaurant crowded when you were there? If the meat/shrimp was dry, were you able to try a new skewer of the same or did it not make a difference?

We received meat from various skewers, and all of it was dry and overcooked. It was not busy since there were many empty tables. It was about 8:30 at night.

It was very busy on the nights that we were there. The food and service weren't good IMHO but the coconut races etc. are fun for the small kids. Make sure your child gets a broom to sweep with immediatly when the race is announced. Even if your child does not win, all kids get a reward(jelly beans when we were there) so send them on up to the front near the kitchen where the man gives them out. For views, the tables near the window as you look directly across the dining room are best. Others may have different opinions but we always waited for a good table. The tables I mentioned are near the kids activities and the fireworks. You want to get junior right out to the wood pathway that makes a square around the room. This is where the races take place. DW and I ate there on our first night 5/25 this year. I too was very unimpressed by the quality of the food and service. We had just finished a two day drive from CT and thought that part of the problem was just that I was exhausted. After reading this thread I realize it really was bad.

You all have me thinking second thoughts now. I've made a PS for 'Ohana's for August 30, but now I'm reconsidering. Do you suppose the time of evening you dine makes a difference on the quality of food? For example, would an early dinner seating find "fresher" prepared meats? Hmmmm....not sure now.

We had a wonderful time at 'Ohana's in May 2002. The food was wonderful and the service great. The kids loved the activities.
OTOH we tried CM's in 2000due to the reviews here and from friends. We wouldn't go near that place again if it was the only place to eat in all of Florida.

We've eaten there the last two trips and we loved it. Our service was great both times. We took our 14-year-old son this year for the first time and that’s all he talked about for days. I would give it another try.

We've eaten there on our last 2 trips in October 2001 and Feb 2003 and plan on going back 2 times in December 2003.

We love it and it's my husbands favorite place.

I think the shrimp are great and he loves the pork and beef.

We didn't like the turkey much but we don't like turkey in general...As turkey goes, theirs was very nice.

The wings are to die for and I love the veggies and the salad.

We love the atmosphere and the people. We have always had excellent service.

It's a tradition with friends of ours that are at WDW NOW and they love it.

Sorry we don't agree

I hope I have a better experience since I have made a PS to celebrate my 37th birthday. I was hoping that it would be the perfect ending to our last night of the trip.

We enjoyed all of the food except the meats. The meats were terrible but the rest of the meal was great!

was there last week, didnt care for it, but youre right the one good thing was the lapu lapu :)

My family and I ate at 'Ohana 2 weeks ago. The service was basically non existent. We had to ask to have the skewers brought over to us and were not terribly impressed with anything. I am a fan of shrimp, but peeling shrimp that has been seasoned and grilled is very messy and quite frankly not worth the trouble. Our son is 14 and not a big eater. I was honest when we booked the ps and gave his true age. He was charged as an adult and ate very little. Though we had a ps we did wait rather long. My husband was quite hungry and asked the server to bring over more shrimp and he seemed a bit bothered by the request. When they bring out the pineapple you are being cut off. We almost never snack after great meals in WDW- and we all had something on the boardwalk after eating at 'Ohana.

RAV, I wonder if you had our waiter when we went in late May. I NEVER complained about any of our meals anywhere. However I was really annoyed with the service and could not shake it off. I ended up calling the manager the next day and explained how terrible the service was. We had a great dinner last Feb and decided to return. However, the food seemed to be not as good and the waiter was just horrible.

RAV and lat,

I think i had that same server!!!!!!!!!!! ;)

I'd throw my hat behind the Whispering Canyon over Ohanou. I've had great food at WC, and I've had good food, but never bad food (except at breakfast... wasn't thrilled with that, although, to be honest, I'm not a real fan of breakfast food to begin with). But the cast members really give their all. We tried to sneak some ketchup from another table, and I wound up "behind bars" for my crime. It was a blast, and as far as I could tell, everyone in the place was enjoying it. Loud, yes. Fun? You betcha!

We were there a year ago with three teenagers. They just LOVED it as did hubby. I thought the meat while flavorful, was VERY well done.

We had to remind our server for drink refills and ask for more meat.

I thougt the other components of the meal were very good.
