I've had trouble getting reservations at 'Ohana 3 or 4 trips prior to my last trip. I tried from home, after arriving, even tried walking up and was told I could be seated in 2 hours (which would have made it about 9:00 that night).
Luckily I was able to get reservations for my last trip which was important to me since I was splurging and staying at the Poly. I booked the reservation in June and was going in November (this was before the 90 day rule). But even without the rule, who really wants to make a reservation that far in advance, I only did it because I knew how difficult it was to get in.
I later decided to try to get a breakfast reservation for the day I departed. It
was a last minute decision, only three weeks before my trip. You guessed it, nothing available.
It was never this hard to get reservations before the
DDP. I agree, people who generally didn't do many, if any, sit down meals are now booking. And I'm sure during
free dining it's even worse.
I've also found the selection and quality have gone down since the DDP. As much as we all love Disney, we all know they are in it to make money. So if all these people are getting this great discount on meals, guess what, they have to make money somewhere. Selection and Quality. Which is very frustrating for those not on the DDP. The food is getting very generic, the same thing everywhere. I'm sure they look for what is cheapest, buy in bulk, and put the same thing in every restaurant. Nothing is ever new or different anymore. DDP has taken the fun out of Disney dining.
