Ohana's-other food options for teen?

We have a resv. at Ohana's for dinner. My teenage son doesn't like any of the food there. Can I order him a kids meal instead?

They may be willing to bring out a kids meal for him, but expect to still pay the adult prices. They do it as a courtesy for young children but don't "officially" have a children's menu.

At fixed price restaurants such as 'Ohana you will definitely pay based on age. I would think that they will bring kids' food out for him if you ask but I would push him to at least try some of the food. If you don't use the dipping sauces that are served on the side then the meats are pretty normal meats (served in an unusual way, but pretty simple flavour) and they also serve chicken wings (you can ask for some without sauce if you don't want sauce) and noodles and vegetables and dumplings. IMO it's really not all that exotic.

I had this same issue with my 11 year old. I called Disney about it and I was told no, by 2 different reps, that she could not order off a chldren's menu. I was rather frustrated by this, as it was not about the money, and was willing to pay for adult, as she is over 9. I thought about it a few days, and called a third time, under the premise that Disney goes to a lot of effort to satisfy special dietary requests- food allergies, Kosher meals, vegetarian/vegan diets and why is my request any different. I cannot be uncommon for kids over 9 to not like what's on the adult menus.
I explained up front that I was more than happy to pay the adult price, but would she kindly be able to offer my daughter some other choice that would available to others. She looked at the Kosher menu and said they have chicken fingers and fries, which would be perfect. We are not Jewish and certainly would never want offend anyone by requsting that, but if "vegan" is simply a personal choice, and they make accomodations for that, why could they not make one for her, so we all could go to Ohana. She made this note on my ADR. I would not go there and assume they will just let you son do that, I would call. Hopefully you won't have to make three calls like I did. Disney will by far come out ahead on my $36 plate of chicken fingers.

Most reports are that you can ask for the separate child menu (you will not automatically be given one even if there are children at the table) and your teen can order from it, but will pay the regular adult price. As shown above, if you call ahead they may end up complicating the issue for you - I'd ask at the restaurant and not bother with WDW-DINE. They are wrong a lot. The previous person is the only report I've ever seen of any party being told you can get the kids menu only if you purchase a kosher meal.

If they won't let him order kid food, send him down to Captain Cook's if he's old enough to run down by himself.

Thank you. A couple of questions: if he gets food from Captain Cooks (he likes their food), can he bring it in and eat it at Ohana's? He does have a diagnosed selective eating disorder; can I tell the check-in person or the waitress so they will be more accommodating? Thanks

It's been a while since we ate there but my DD was brought a kids meal which had been prepared at teh Kona Cafe next door and we only paid the kids price even though she was over 9 at the time

If he has a medical condition, try Disney Special Diets - contact information is on the DISabilities board. They might be able to help make it easier for him to get what he needs right there in the restaurant. Although I have only seen one report of someone over age 9 being denied a child's meal and that is the post above...and they didn't actually ask at the restaurant but tried to make arrangements ahead of time through WDW-DINE. I get that people want to be sure before they actually get there, but making her order a kosher meal so her daughter could get chicken nuggets was silly on the part of WDW-DINE. They've got chicken nuggets available right there. It shows that much of the time WDW-DINE has no idea what's going on at the actual restaurants. They're good for making reservations and not much else.

I was suggesting Captain Cook's only if the restaurant throws you a curve ball and says he can't have the nuggets, and I've never heard of that actually happening AT the restaurant. I can't imagine they'd let him carry in food from elsewhere. I have heard one report of a restaurant (Garden Grill, which is also family style) that didn't permit this. I know that restaurant isn't Ohana. I was thinking more of him eating his food down there or in the lobby if he's a teenager and then coming back in to join the family. I'm pretty sure if he stays at the table for the meal they'd still charge him.

Disney is most accomodating with any diets or requests, a couple years ago my son would ONLY eat grilled cheese sandwiches (thats right, No pizza, No chicken fingers, No hotdogs) We were at Mama Melroses and no grilled cheese on the menu but most restaurants would just make him one however they did not even have the bread to make it with! The chef himself ran across the park to 50's Prime time to get him a grilled cheese! We only inquired and had not pushed at all, we were expecting to just get him something later when the waitress came out with it!!! We were impressed to say the least!!!!!!!!

That is so awesome! Just another reason why I love Disney! My son literally eats 3 things (my daughter however eats everything and anything), so I feel better knowing that they will be understanding.

Which makes perfect sense. They are not going to assign the table someone to stand there and make sure the kid won't eat the other food. Since there is always a chance they will try SOMETHING, they have to charge for it.
