Ohana's or Kona Cafe?

We went to Kona last summer, and while it was good, it wasn't a place that I'm planning on returning to anytime soon. We're planning a dinner at Ohana this time around!

I have an ADR for Kona in June and I could not decide between the two either. I have never eaten at either so it was a toss up. I would be interested in more opinions as well.

I've eaten at both and would choose Kona. I know alot of people love Ohana but I just really dont care for it. Ive never had a bad meal at Kona and eat there on just about every trip.

We also didn't care of Ohana and don't plan on going back. The meal was very rushed and just wasn't that good. We much prefer being waited on and having a relaxing meal at Kona. Kona is also one of our favorites and we are planning 4 visits (both lunch and dinners) during our 14 day trip.

Just wanted some opinions.....
I think alot of it depends if you have children or not. Ohana's is great for kids... between their character breakfast with Stitch, and their coconut races, hula hooping dinners it would win hands down with me. On the other hand if there were no kids.... Kona and tonga toast!:dance3:

I couldn't decide, so I'm doing both.

Both are very different places to eat.

'Ohanas more family style, games with the kids.
Kona has more choices for food, calm atmosphere.

both have good food,:thumbsup2

We did both during our stay at the Poly last year. First, I would like to say that the Kona Cafe was the best meal we had the whole entire week. My Filet was dream quality, my husband loved the Mahi-mahi. Our desserts were almost sinful.

Our meal at Ohana's felt rushed. They kept moving us along too quickly even when we asked for everything to slow down a bit. The apps. were great but, unfortunately, some of the meat was inedible. The steak was grisly and impossible to cut. The turkey was fine, the sausage was ok, but the rest of the meats were not of good quality.

My biggest complaint was that they rushed us. We are not slow eaters and have never been rushed before in a restaurant. But it was so obvious that they wanted us done and out that it hurt our little feelings. Hard to enjoy, when you know you are not wanted. Dessert was good too.

We just didn't have the tropical experience that we were hoping for.

We just got back from spring break at the Poly and we ate at both for dinner. O'hana's is definetly more kid friendly because of the entertainment. The food was just OK. The food at Kona was loads better and overall it was a more relaxing meal. We did O'hana on the night of our arrival to get us in the spirit of things and Kona later in the week when we all needed a break!

We had dinner at O'hana last year. It was good. I would have enjoyed myself more if we were able to get in earlier. We dined at 9:30. The servers were great with us and one talked to us for a while at the end of our meal. (Things were winding down). I guess it was my fault. Could've planned sooner.

We had the Kona breakfast (Tonga toast) and loved it. We have an ADR for dinner in three weeks. Can't wait. :thumbsup2

We prefer Kona over 'Ohana. In fact, we've already made our ADR for Kona in September but decided to skip 'Ohana.

We loved both of them in July, and we've got ADRs for our trip coming up this July, too.

Kona is more relaxed with more choices. 'Ohana is more hectic and busy with games and entertainment. Food is good at both. It depends on what you're looking for.

Do you want a realy Disney experience with a silly atmosphere and lots of stuff going on? Do you want to try a bunch of different foods that are nonetheless fairly basic brought to your table family style? Then do 'Ohana.

Do you want a relaxing but casual meal with nicely prepared creative choices chosen from a menu? Then do Kona.

I like the food better at Kona's. But if I were going with kids I would go to Ohana's for the fun atmosphere. We all liked the food at Ohana's also. But the food is so good at Kona's. I went on 2 solo trips when I was looking at houses in Fl. So I was glad to check it out about 4 times between those two trips, I liked it so much.
I didn't even look to see if there was any kind of kid menu at Kona's (for the first time ever I was kidless) but if there wasn't a kids menu, I don't think it would be something my fussy eaters would have enjoyed. But they loved Ohanas.

On our trip last May I couldn't decide so we ate at both. We all thought that O'hana was very over-rated. The wings and salad were good but the meat was unappealing. The sausage was just plain nasty. Kona was wonderful. The food and atmosphere were great. We're going back to Kona this May.

Both are great, but we go to Kona everytime and O'hana only sometimes. At Kona, you have great variety and a wonderful atmosphere. O'hana is a lot of fun, but you get what they give you--a lot of skewered meat. Probably more for fun for little ones. You will enjoy either.

I'm a bit surprised by all the "rushed" comments about Ohanas:confused3 our family of 4 loves the food, the conversation, and the service here. Our ressie is usually around 7pm during June/July, so it is peak time...we enjoy our meal at our own pace and get up when we're good and ready. the servers visit your table more often than a normal sit-down meal, but that's because they want to make sure they are attentive to refilling your meal choices (it's all you can eat). :cool1: we'll be here again in June. can't wait.:thumbsup2

Perfect timing - this is one of the questions I came online today to ask! :thumbsup2 After reading the menus I had been leaning towards Kona, but so many people just rave about Ohana that I just couldn't decide. We'll be all adults except for one infant this trip so we definitely going with Kona. Thanks everyone!
