Ohana's new NOODLES and WONTONS.... (with PICS)

Thanks for posting those pics!!! I don't think they look too bad. Anyone have pics of the shrimp? I would love to see those too!!

In the picture next to the noodles, are those "sticky wings"? I had sticky wings as an appetizer at Kona Cafe and have gone back a second time just to get the wings, they are delicious!

Gotta admit those noodles don't look so hot, the potstickers look decent though, even if they did just shipped in from Sam's Club!

:)

You can't tell what something tastes like from a picture. Also, peanuts are very asian. I know people have allergies. I'm allergic to shrimp (eating it) so I don't eat it or anything with shrimp in it, but I dont' expect restaurants to not serve it because of my allergies.

We made ADRs, but now I'm a little concerned because I won't eat the beef or the shrimp, I was hoping they have both turkey and sausage so I'd have some variety with meats, but some have mentioned the sausage is gone. Can anyone tell me for sure if the only meat skewers are turkey, shrimp, and beef? If so, I'm really disappointed.

Yes, the only meat skewers are turkey, shrimp and beef. I would say that if you are not going to eat the shrimp or beef, you are really paying a lot for some pieces of turkey (that I didn't like that much anyway - very dry) and some side dishes.

The potatoes that were usable under the new policy did not "re-hydrate" well and became mushier and mushier as the night went on. Without the trans fat in them they were not substantial enough for the cheesy dish and they looked so ugly that he decided not to serve them any longer.

Are you saying they were not even fresh potatoes, but dehydrated ones like you buy in a box? Yuch.

I don't mean to doubt you, but I'm just wondering if you ended up trying that sauce they brought out for you. I'm curious because I have a jar of that same rooster sauce in my fridge as it's one of my staple condiments. Chili is the first ingredient in it and I think it has a nice heat kick, a bit hotter than tabasco, although certainly not on the same scoville level as a habanero or scotch bonnet pepper. I never really got a sour note on it, but vinegar is in there, too.

I'm glad to know that 'Ohana has this sauce, though. Next time I dine at Kona, I'll have to see if my server can borrow it from their kitchen.

I'm Asian (Hmong) and this is NOT a true hot/dipping sauce. I use it at home, too. I put in in my pho among other things to add to its flavor. The vinegar must be what I tasted as sour. DW and I like spicy food, so we always request it when we go out to eat at Asian restaurants. It's always funny what other cultures consider spicy.:rotfl:

BTW, DW loves Blazin wings at Buffalo Wild Wings.:thumbsup2

Hi
Thanks for the pictures. I was wondering if the noodles have beef broth on them, or is it a soy sauce. I don't eat meat, but love the shrimp. If the noodles are made with broth, I won't eat them.

I didn't taste any kind of meaty broth with the noodles. They just tasted kinda sweet.

Also, in regards to another post, the noodles aren't peanutty except for the peanuts that they sprinkled on top. I'm sure you could request them to not come with peanuts

They have pork, too.:thumbsup2

And Like I said previously, the turkey was undercooked (still pink in the middle).

I find your conversation with their chef very interesting because the recipe they gave out for the Ohana potatoes uses fresh Idaho Russet potatoes that do not need to rehydrating. Clearly at the restaurant they used French Fry type product that had trans fats added. The whipping cream, Cheddar cheese & Parmesan cheese (also in the recipe) are very low in trans fats and I can't imagine they've been banned from Disney World. I've always suspected that the recipes they give out are not exactly what they do in the kitchen because if they used fresh potatoes there wouldn't be a problem. It also explains why the dishes usually taste somewhat different when you make them at home - though I find they are often better than what I had at Disney World.

If yo get a waitress named Melly, the service will be slow!!! My family came to visit and the service was terrible this time around, not only for us, but another table as well!!! Joe the manager picked up our $250 bill. But I still love Ohana, and will eat there alot more. If you can, ask for Cousin Joe!!! He's the best waiter ever.

Thanks for the pictures! Noodles and wontons looks great to me! I LOVE udon noodles. Woohoo!

Honestly, I'd rather have noodles than potatoes, so I'm looking forward to the change. The potatoes always seemed to me to be just like the Betty Crocker box of scalloped potatoes at the grocery store. Love noodles! Can't wait to try them! I also like pork wontons (one of my favorite things to get at Chinese restaurants.) I'll be looking forward to my Ohana ADR this July!:thumbsup2

Just cancelled my Ohana reservation. I'm very dissapointed and not about to spend money on food we probably won't like.:sad1:

I've had a hard time getting all the pages on this thread to load, so if this is a redundant question please overlook me! Is the 2nd picture posted of the fried wontons? They look like pot stickers, but I wasn't sure.

Way back before the potatoes, they had fried wonton balls that my DD absolutely loved. I liked the potatoes, but I don't have a problem with the noodles.
