This was our first time to dine at Ohana's and we were really looking forward to a terrific meal. We checked in, and it took over 20 min. to be seated, which was very difficult for my already tired and hungry 1 yr. old. Once seated, we had a very friendly "cousin" who kindly explained how the meal would be served, asked if we were on the dining plan, and then encouraged us to order non-alcoholic specialty drinks in addition to our soda/iced teas. Wonderful! She then started taking away the extra place settings at the table and asked if we would like a plate left for the baby (who had fallen asleep), which we said yes, thank you. A little while later, a different "cousin" came and brought the starter courses of the meal (salad, shrimp, wontons/chips, sauces...) explained what each dish was and then got a confused look on her face and said oops, sorry, these weren't for your table - and she took them away!!!! It was at least another 10 minutes before we ever received any more food (this time it stayed - I think my DH would have put his fork in her hand if she tried to take it away again - LOL!)
The food itself was WONDERFUL - our favorite meal of the trip! But the service was just TERRIBLE!!! At one point we looked around the restaurant and there wasn't a single "cousin" in sight! We never saw our original "cousin" until the end of the meal - when she brought out the dessert (which by the way, was SOOOOO yummy!!) It wasn't until then that we were able to get a refill on our drinks. The whole atmosphere seemed very disorganized. Anyway, we got through the meal, used our dining plan (we did not leave an extra tip here, did at all other TS) and headed back to our hotel. It was then we noticed that they had charged us a TS for the baby. We went to the front desk, explained the situation and were told that because we asked for a plate for our baby, we needed to use a credit. We explained that it was our understanding that children under 3 eat for free from their parent's plate (unless of course, you order something extra for them from the menu). She said that because we did not order anything else for him from the menu and had asked for a plate for him that a TS was used for his meal. Has anyone else experienced any trouble with this??? (We did not have any trouble at any other restaurants, and they usually did not even charge us when we did order a drink or a side for him, although we fully expected to pay.) She finally did end up crediting us the TS back, but only after a lot of heated discussion about it. I am very disappointed that poor service took away from what was otherwise a perfect meal.
