In all our trips to Disney, we have never eaten at the Poly. I was wondering if O'Hana's would be a good choice for our first night. I keep reading how people watch the fireworks from here or the beach and it sounds so nice. We don't plan on staying up too late since we will have to get up early that morning to catch a 6:30 am flight to Orlando. We have a 4.5 DD, do they have a nice kid's menu? This question has probably been posted before and I apologize for that. If anyone could share their insight with me it would help a lot in planning my PS's.
Thanks:wave:

'Ohana is ALWAYS our first dinner at WDW! This year will be the 6th time fulfilling that tradition.

I have 2 kids who are now 7 and 8. There is no kids menu. The food is the same for everyone and is served family style at the table. Check the menu at allearsnet.com to see what you think. My kids fall in the meat-a-saurus category so this meal is perfect for all of us.

My DD7 is the pickiest. She has a very narrow food vision:p . She eats the baby corn from the stir fried vegies and the fried rice, although last time she was extra picky and we asked our server for some plain rice, not stir fried, and she appeared shortly with a whole bowl just for DD! The fried chicken wings DD loved, she didn't eat the wontons, but that didn't surprise me either, with her pickiness. She doesn't eat salad so she didn't eat that either. But she ate the turkey, beef and pork, but not the shrimp.

DS8 eats everything. Seriously. The kid ate some of everything.

I have read on these boards that if you truly think your child won't eat the food at'Ohana that you can order something off the kids menu at Kona Cafe. But I personally haven't had the need to do that, so I have no first hand reports for you.

Hope you go there!

My DD4 sounds JUST like your DD7 when it comes to eating habits. What time do you usually go? Is this a place where I would really want to take advantage of trying to see the fireworks for dinner or will a 5:30 or so PS work just as well?

'Ohana is an excellent choice for your first night. It is also our first choice in exactly three weeks. ::MickeyMo

We usually eat around 5:30 or 6 anyway. If we happen to catch the fireworks while there - and we have - great, if not, we decide afterwards if we have time to stay and watch or if we want to just go.

I did OHana's dinner for the first time on my first night in Jan. I had planned on doing it for first night in Oct but we changed our dates to get cheaper airfare so now we'll do it our 2nd night so we can meet up with some friends. My DS (nearly 3 so he was free) loved all the food but DD(4) would only eat the green beans. I ordered her the Mac & Cheese but she wouldn't eat that either because it wasn't from a box;) but DS ate it:p I didn't think to ask for plain rice for her. Next time I'll order something different from the children's menu for her. The atmosphere is great and my DD didn't complain. My baby (nearly 1) LOVED the pineapple bread. I can't wait to see what she thinks of it this time. All 3 adults LOVED the food!

I would think a 5:30 PS would be good. Then you can stroll the Poly's grounds and stay to watch the fireworks from the beach if you're up to it or just go back to bed if you're not.

I purchased matching dresses for my girls and my friend's DD to wear. They are Mickey & Minnie Hawaian style and they were on sale at the Disney store for around $10 each. I may break down next week and buy myself one at $16.

We ate at 'Ohana our first full day last year. It was a wonderful way to start out the trip!!! We had our 3.5 yr old and 17 month old at that time, and they ate all the food they served, we didn't have to order anything special for them. (But I'm sure they have other kids options available as all WDW restaurants seem to.)

I'm so hungry right now, and boy would I love to eat at 'Ohana tonight for dinner! GREAT food!!!!

The only problem with having 'Ohana's for you first night is that it is so good that you will want to eat there on your second night, your third, your fourth...

tee hee...

yum!
