Hi all. I looked at the menu for Ohanas and didn't see anything about them serving sides and/or vegetables only meat. Does anyone know if they serve potatoes or vegetables with the meat for dinner? Also, I heard that kids can order chicken fingers and fries instead of what they serve. Do you need to tell them when make your reservation or when you get there?

Thanks,

The sides come before the meat. You get honey chicken wings, shrimp wontons, green beans, salad, and fried rice. It comes all at once. You can get as much as this as your want. When you get there you can tell your waitperson that you want a regular kids meal for you kids. Make sure you are charged the correct price. They charged us the kids price for the Ohana meal, which was like 9.99, and not the kids meal price which was less. We did get the bill fixed. Enjoy, the restaurant is wonderful.

I think it's done on a server basis and not a rule. When we died at Ohana in July, our kids both ordered regular kids meals, and didn't eat any of the dinner we were served. We were charged $9.99 per kid, and I questioned the server about it. He said that's the charge for kids, regardless of what they eat and they offer the alternative selections only on a request basis.

When we died at Ohana in July,

Oh My! And here I thought we might want to try this restaurant out on our next trip!! :rotfl:

We were just there in December and I ordered the grilled cheese and french fries for Athena. She still ate off of the adult meal (especially the pineapple dipping sauce!) and I was only charged 3.49 for her meal. I would make sure the cost before you order it though, just to be safe. We love O'hanas. We go every trip!

Hi! I have a reservation for the Spirit of Aloha . Now that i read about Ohana- I'm wondering if that would be a better place to go with my 6 year old. The review for Ohana seem to be better. Any suggestions? Thanks!:wave2:

I've always wanted to try Ohana's. But now that I know that this could happen, I'm not so sure. To know that you died at Ohana's and were reincarnated, and began posting on these boards...well gosh darn, Ohana's is off my list! I'm sorry I couldn't resist! :teeth:

Actually I probably would die, I'm very allergic to ginger and I guess they use a lot of ginger in their cooking. Too bad because Ohana's sounds SOOOOO yummy!

donkeysleuth - I think your 6 yr old would enjoy Ohanas. We've been there a couple of times now, and we're trying to decide about going back. After our 1st time there we said it would have to become a tradition for us. However, since we've never done the Luau, we do have that scheduled for our next trip (that's why the hesitation on Ohanas) May just have to do both. I'm hoping our DS11 and DS3 (birthday trip 4) will enjoy the Luau at least half as much as they love Ohanas.

I have to post - that to say that there are just greenbeans as a side dish does an injustice to the dish, it is fresh stirfried greenbeans - the long thin kind (still kind of crunchy) with carmelized purple onion and bacon and is delicious and I'm not much of a greenbean eater.

I'm not sure about them using ginger. I know the turkey doesn't have any, nor does the beef (to my tastebuds anyway). I make sure to ask for the won-tons without sauce though. They have never been able to convince me that there's no mango in the sauce and I'm deathly allergic to mangos.

You could always call and ask to speak to the chef. I know that most WDW restaurants bend over backwards to make sure those of us with food allergies have plenty to eat. With advance warning, they may be able to whip up everything on the menu for you without including ginger, but only if you let them know beforehand. It's worth a shot.

jel0511 We didn't expect you to take it so seriously when boardmembers say the fresh pineapple and caramel sauce is to die for.
;)
