Ohana's 18th wedding anniversary disappointed.

We've had similar experiences at O'hana (we are generally a party of 2 or 3). The service is very uneven - bread and food coming before drinks, waiting forever for dessert and the check. I just chalk it down to the kind of chaotic nature of the restaurant (not an excuse, but after being there a few times, I kind of expect this). I'm sorry you had a bad experience with the service. Just wanted to note, if you were looking for a romantic anniversary type of dining experience at O'hana, yes, you're expectations were a bit too high, IMHO. After countless trips to WDW, we've determined the only way to get a stellar, quiet meal is to pick a resort, signature restaurant (and even then you have to be strategic - for instance, Jiko and Artist Point are quieter than Cali Grill). The only in-park restaurant that's ever been quiet or "romantic" in any way is Monsieur Paul. O'hana is all about large quantities of meat and coconut races!
Didn't really expect quiet but my expectation was to have good food and service. Especially at that price point. Maybe you are right though...Bad service should be overlooked. Maybe had we came in as a party of 10 we could have received better attention from our waiter. SMH.

The only time we ate at Ohana, the service was really good...but the food and atmosphere were atrocious. Too many other great places to eat, so we don't feel the need to go back.

We got the awesome quiet and romantic table for two right in the middle of where they roll the coconuts and do the congo line. What a treat getting knocked in the feet with coconuts or hit in the shoulder by kids.
We have never been back.
Why would they put a table for two there?

I've only eaten dinner here twice. Once was abysmal and once was great. There seems to be a massive staffing issue here with waiters not being able to juggle small tables with large tables. The abysmal night we were a party of 5 and had probably last seating. Next to us was a massive "rehearsal dinner" of about 15. I guess they did not book through fairytale wedding and booked this on their own but expected service like a private dinning experience. Our waiter was MIA the entire meal. It was so bad a friend excused himself and talked to the manager. She was aghast and had a different service team take care of us. That team was just as bad. One of the 2 even had the nerve to say we should be greatful for what we got because we weren't their table. Friend got manager again and the manager had to end up bringing us all our food and have the chef make fresh everything because the servers were all refusing to do anything. I didn't even know Ohana had awesome noodles until or 2nd visit. The cherry on top of the terrible pie was when the food server dropped meat on the table and the proceeded to put it on my fiances plate. I don't think we paid or tipped for that meal.

The 2nd time was a complete 180. We got amazing attentive service. We were given the mac and cheese when asked and food was always hot and never ending. If I could guarentee that meal every time I would go to Ohana but it being so polar makes it hard.

On the requesting tables I never push unless it is really bad (like right by the bathrooms/service station) mostly because everyone is celebrating something at Disney and I imagine if I can't sit there maybe it is because someone came earlier and requested it or it is due to the rotation of waiters (i.e. The waiter for those tables may actually be on break so I'll be waiting extra if I want that table) so I take what I get most of the time.

I didn't mean you should overlook it. After our last experience there, which was very similar to yours, we most likely won't be back. We've been 3 times now and that's enough. We tend to try to look for quieter places to eat and, after repeated chaotic experiences at O'hana (which seems to be the norm), it's not for us.

This thread makes me nervous for my honeymoon trip, it's my first time going.

Your first time at WDW or first time at Ohana?

The big thing to remember is anything "special" is all pixie dust and not to be expected. Yeah it happens pretty frequently but don't expect it to happen because it is never guarenteed.

Ohana, I'm not expecting anything special but I don't want to have bad service cause we're a party of 2.

What time is your reservation. This is the only restaurant I've felt like time mattered. We actually were a party of 3 when we had the phenominal service and party of 4/5 when we had the terrible service.

Disney or at home, every time we get a server who is also dealing with a large party we get ignored. It sucks. I think it's a staffing issue but is totally unfair to the smaller party who are also paying customers.

My most recent Disney experience with this was at Boma... Our server was so busy catering to the party of 12 next to us that she couldn't (or didn't care to) refill our drinks ever, and we were a party of 4. It was awful.

Sorry, OP.

5:40pm, I wanted to try and get in before they could get too backed up for dinner. I also didn't want to have to stress about being back in time for HEA in case it really was 2 hours for dinner.

You should have no problems at that time. Of course no guarentee but I think that's about when we ate for our great service experience.

The first time DH and I went to 'Ohana we were seated right on the aisle and it was fine until the kids games started. The kids were no problem - it was the mom that was literally leaning her entire body over our plates of food to take pictures of her kid. The lady leading the games saw her and gave a general "Please be courteous of other diners" annoucement, but that didn't faze the mom with her boobs in my noodles.

We have gone back ever year since and I always request at check in that we not be on the aisle and we have been accomodated every time. I think maybe the difference between our request and the OP's was that we made the request at check in and not as the hostess was walking us to our table.

We will be a party of 12 with 5:40 reservations in early November -- I am not sure how much the cost per person will be --I did make the reservation for a Monday night because I had read that the cost was lower during the week than on the weekend. We are hoping for a fun dinner...not chaotic as one of the posters described:)

'Ohana is what it is. I cannot excuse poor service, but I will say that at our last meal the server was in the weeds, and while I was annoyed at the situation, I could not blame her. She was run ragged by a table filled with obnoxious guests with no assistance by the manager. We were a party of 9.

I cannot understand the overall appeal of this restaurant, but many love it. 'Ohana chronically runs late, rushes food that is often poorly cooked, and charges a fortune to do so. I am sorry your meal was not what you had envisioned, but this is not a restaurant that has the capacity to turn every celebration into something special. I always advise people that if they want a special consideration they need to ask, and if something is vey important, they need to pay for it.

We may try it in the future, but I'm not holding high expectations over it. At least now I know what to do if our Dining Experience goes terrible!

I appreciate this thread so much. Was planning our last dinner of our trip next week to be at Ohana, and have just changed the adr. Thanks!

$46/adult & $26/child, plus tip, unless the price goes up. No price difference between weekend & weekday.

Sitting on the "racetrack" was another reason our meal there wasn't enjoyable. We got bumped into or outright slammed repeatedly by kids and their parents jockeying for position or trying to shove their crying little ones into the line. Bewteen that and the shrieking ukelele player it was awful.
