Anyone have an opinion on Ohana for dinner. I have a picky 8 year old but it looks like it might be fun!
:cool1:

I'm a pretty picky eater and I really enjoyed Ohana. When there is a glaze or a sauce an the grilled meats it is very tame. My favs. of the evening were that starters the chicken wings and the shrimp won ton especially! I think they have a separate child's menu too so I'm sure there will be some safe choices on there. My party was all adults, but we got a huge kick out of the coconut races, all of the kids looked like they were having a blast.

'Ohana is our arrival day tradition. In November 2003, there were nine of us for dinner, ranging in age from 3.5 to 65 and 'Ohana was the hit of the trip. Everyone raved. The two little ones found lots to eat among the appetizers. It is nice that you can mix and match and add sauces to create a customized meal.

I hope you give it a try!

There's enough choices to keep the 8 year old content and more than enough to bring the rest of you to your knees! My kids have grown up with the place, and we just keep going back, time after time...

Ohana is one of our favorites!
My picky 8 yo eats the rice and my even more picky 5 yo eats the bread. However, the good news is that although they dont have an actual kids menu there, they will get picky kids something from the Kona Cafe. If you want this option and they dont offer it to you, be sure to ask. Some of the things they can get are hot dogs, grilled cheese, chicken tenders....the typical kid stuff.
And yes, it is a lot of fun. The kids love the coconut races. Unfortuantely during our 2 meals there we have never seen the hula hoop contests, but Im sure that must be fun too.
Enjoy!

One of our fave places, I think there's enough variety and fun for everyone - plus, if she really turns her nose up to what is offered, your waiter can get her a traditional children's meal from next door at Kona - just ask =)

Sounds fun! I read somewhere you should request the main dining room, is that still true? :cool1:

I have been twice and never noticed any other dining room. I would request a view of the castle if possible. We had that both times and it was awesome.

I'd eat at 'Ohana every night if I could.

Are you guys talking about the Luau or just eating at Ohana in general? We're staying at the Poly for our trip and we thought we'd just eat at the resort on arrival day. I thought the Luau would be fun. Opinions?

how do they serve at ohana is it buffet, family style or menu

Ohana serves the appetizers family style, as shown in this picture.

Then your "cousin" will come around with skewers of meat. They give you however much you want of each time.

My DD (9) is very picky, but fortunately she likes steak, so she really enjoyed the meal. Now when she was 7 there wasn't anything she would eat at 'Ohana, so we got her something somewhere else.

I loved Ohana's. We were there just last week. Ask for a seat by the window because you can see the castle. Good food and wonderful frozen drinks. Yummy. The cast members were so friendly. The atmosphere was nice. I loved it and next time we go to WDW I will definately go again.

Actually this is one of the best places for picky kids. My kids can get chicken strips or hot dogs and we get to eat the great appetizers and wonderful grilled meats. Each time we have ordered the kids' meals, the servers have also asked the kids if they wanted some steak or turkey. They usually don't. Be sure your child stands in line at the end of the coconut races and gets the prize - a handful of gummy worms! Oh, and the desserts here are to die for also! Chocolate mousse is our (me and DD-7) fav dessert in all the world! :mickeybar

The servers at O'Hana, are very accomadating. My 6 Y.O. did not care for the shrimp seasonings. They brought out an entire skewer of non-seasoned shrimp just for her. Her eyes were as big as saucers looking at all that shrimp. The steak and turkey are very good.

I can't wait till our meal there in April. Looking at those pictures------YYYUUUMMM

I have the world's pickest child (9 y/o)!!! He literally eats 5 items, none of which are served at Ohana's or Kona Cafe. We fed him at the hotel (i bring his food with us) prior to our PS. Told our "cousin" he would not be eating. Was not charged for him when they offered him everything and he said No.

This is the second time we did this with him and were not charged for him either time. I did order him a "Beach Bomb" which he picked at. Oh well, we still got to enjoy a great meal!!!!!!!!! :flower:

Just my opinion......but O'hana's is the BEST restaurant in WDW!!!

But you know what "they" say.....opinions are like &*$#@$%!!!

everyone's got one!!!!

ENJOY!!!!!!! :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

We have eaten at Ohana twice. The first time we really enjoyed it and couldn't wait to go back. Last year it just wasn't as good. Maybe it was an off night, but the food seemed really dry - even the pineapple for dessert. My son always orders something from the kid's menu. He does enjoy the activities. We will probably try it again in a couple of years. princess: pirate: :earboy2:

I must say we all disliked Ohanas. It was recommended to us by a friend who raved about it. We were seated at the back, away from the action and the waiter hovered over us all evening. The meat was tough, overly smoked and at one stage we had all three courses sitting on our table.
I suppose we form opinions based on our experiences. Ours was bad and we were rushed. I dont expect the cheque to arrive on the table while we are only halfway through our food. One of the big disappointments in WDW.

We love Ohanas and do it every trip. We do always request the main dining area. That is where they do the coconut races and hula hoops. The kids absolutely love it! Enjoy!!!
