'Ohana wontons

Wantons are basically a dumpling made of noodles, and often stuffed with pork. They're frequently served in soup. Not sure if the ones at Ohana are exactly like that, but I'll bet they're close.

And a funny story.

My Dad brought home Chinese food when we were all kids, & had never had Chinese before. Needless to say, we were all a bit trepidatious. So he even starts first- "really, kids, it won't hurt you."

He then bites into a wonton. Somehow, the wonton had "expanded" when it was hot, and "contracted" as it was on his way to his mouth- somehow, it "shrunk" right when he bit into it, and it attached itself to his lip. It was hot, vaguely painful, and shocking to say the least, so he reacted with great surprise- "Ow! Ow! It's biting me! Ow!"

Our little eyes were wide as saucers. Dad was okay, just surprised. Needless to say, we weren't forced to try Chinese that night.

They only have wonton chips now. They are basically the outer covering of the wontons before. There is no filling now. They do give some sauces that you can dip them in.

I think of Fried Wontons as Chinese Potato Chips. The ones they serve now at 'OHana especially, since they do not have a filling. The are crispy chip like morsel and someone else said they are served with 3 dipping sauces. I like them plain, as they were served.

They're not won tons. They're those little fried chips like the kind you get with your meal in downscale Chinese restaurants.

here is a picture of the new ones and old ones:
