O'Hana with teens??

I had dinner at O'Hana a couple of years ago, but I didn't have DH or DSs with me on that trip. I enjoyed the food, but we had, in my opinion, a lousy table location. It was off to the right, as soon as you walk into the restaurant. It seemed that all of the action, the ukelele player, the kid's games, etc. was happening further into the restaurant, in what I guess you'd call the main area of the restaurant. My DNiece did a couple of the games but we couldn't even see her doing the games from our table. Even though I have eaten there once, I really don't feel like I "know" this restaurant at all, if that makes sense. They never even brought us over to see the open pit grill, as I've read that they usually do.

This brings me to my current question: Do you think our DSs, who will be 16 and 13, will enjoy O'Hana?? They're too old for the kid's games, and I know they won't be overly thrilled with the food (they still prefer chicken fingers to steak. lol) but I know they'd find enough to eat from all of the choices. I'm just wondering if they might be happier having dinner someplace else that night, and just DH and I going to O'Hana. I definitely plan on requesting a better table location this time, we'll be celebrating our anniversary, and we like to be in the middle of the action. We're staying at the Polynesian, so we don't particularly need to be there to view the fireworks, we'll be able to view them from our own balcony :)

Any comments or opinions are greatly appreciated! Anyone with teens who either liked or didn't care for this restaurant??

P.S. We will be coming directly from a 7 night Disney cruise to Disney World and the Polynesian, during which we will have eaten every dinner together with our DSs, so that's why I don't mind the idea of DSs eating somewhere else while DH and I dine at O'Hana that night. But, if you think our teen boys would enjoy it, please let me know! Thanks! :)

Why not take advantage of being at WDW where you can give your sons some money and a curfew and send them to a park for the evening? My teen son would rather do that, and eat junk food from a cart than take the time for dinner. Especially if it's a place he doesn't like the food.

It would make for a relaxing dinner with your DH :)

Congratulations, and have a great trip!

This is my teen daughters favorite restaurant at WDW. My DD who normally loves steak thought the turkey was great and my DD who normally only eats chicken thought the steak was great. They weren't into the kids games either and certainly weren't really into food in general the first time we went, but they really love this place. The first time they were probably about 13 and 16 too.

My older sons will be 16 and 11 (almost!) when we go in May (also have a daughter 13 and an infant son). What I did is let the kids look at menus, etc. for the various sit down places we were considering and got their input. All 3 voted down O'Hana's for dinner (the boys because they think they are "too old" for the games and my daughter because she is not a big meat eater). Maybe let your boys do the same?

I also plan to let them have a "room service night" one night while my husband and I have an "adults only meal" at Flying Fish (they get to eat whatever off the menu-within reason!-and we get free babysitting :D

A side question for you: will you allow your boys to go to the various parks without you? My 3 have been championing that cause for the last month. Being on the monorail, I am leaning toward letting them go to MK during the day without us but am more nervous about them going to any of the other parks (I know the monorail goes to Epcot but that park just "seems" farther away, you know?!). We'll keep in contact via cell phone and will have ground rules re splitting up, etc, but wonder what your feelings are on this? Have already ruled out their going at night anywhere off property alone (I know, mean old Mom has to ruin the fun  )

My DS is 11 and really like the place. The food is good, but has a mild, simple side that most kids will go for. Unlimited amouts is always good with teen boys too. ;) . There is lots going on even if they are too old for the game. O'Hana's means family. I think this is one the whole family would enjoy.

My kids as teens liked O'Hana but then they love the type of food that is served there. My DD has also always enjoyed the atmosphere because she loves little kids and really enjoys watching them playing the games etc. My DS, as a teen or even now as an adult could care less about the atmosphere at O'hana and thinks the games, music etc are rather corny. He has always liked O'hana for one reason and one reason only---- the food! LOL!
If your DSs really would not enjoy the very, very good food, I think this is one Disney dining experience that they could easily skip.
