I would like to eat at Ohana. I understand that the dessert is bannana bread pudding. We're a group of 4, but one of us is alergic to bannanas. Would disney substitute a seperate dessert for them?

great timing--we were there last week and my wife is allergic to bananas, too! we told the waiter and he sent the chef out to talk to her and got a list of her allergies & intolerances (lactose). he made her a nice sunday using soy ice cream (which she'd never tried before but liked!) with fresh pinapple, chocolate sauce, and chocolate chip cookie. the sunday was actually sorta served on skewers, with chunks of pineapple and balls of soy ice cream. she loved it :thumbsup2

'Ohana is WONDERFUL at accomodating any type of food allergy, and like gila said, not replaced by a little dish of ice cream, they go out of their way to make it special and appealing! They do this with all the food, not just desserts. (This has been our experience quite a few times...) Have fun!

BTW...My DS is allergic to bananas and it doesn't seem to be a common allergy, we get some funny reactions when we tell people! :)

We went last year with my nephew who is allergic to eggs and peanuts. He was two at the time so not even a paying customer.

The chef came out, talked to us and pointed out all the dishes that would be off limits. He then made up egg free mac and cheese for my nephew.

They were great.

We were there in Dec, I am allergic to Peanuts, chef was great told what to avoid in main dinner and then prepared a special dessert for me, which not only made me feel special, it was fantasic too.

When we were at O'hana, we asked for the bannana sauce on the side as I do not like bananas. The sauce was served seperately for us to pour on the dessert if we wanted it. I dont think the dessert itself was made with bananas, but I am not 100% certain on that.

We were not treated very special when we were there. We had a child with a birthday and a nut allergy. Our CM ended up bringing her a bowl of plain ice cream and completely ignoring her birthday. Hopefully, you will have a better experience. Our CM was a dud. The other experiences sound great. :guilty:

We were there last fall. When the waitress came over to clear some dishes to make room for the dessert I asked for the sauce on the side because DH is allergic to the bananas. She ended up bringing him this huge dessert. It looked like a large chocolate cupcake, sliced like a layer cake, each layer had whipped cream and sliced strawberries. I wish I had gotten a picture.

My DS8 has a peanut, egg and shellfish allergy. We are always treated well at 'Ohana. Last December, Chef TJ (formerly of Boma at AKL), came to the table, told us what DS could eat (he had meat off skewers w/o any issues), brought him a plate of special rice and chicken wings, and later came to the table with a dessert that can best be described as a cookie volcano. It had soy ice cream, egg-free chocolate chip cookies (Divvies), chocolate sauce and pineapple. It looked fantastic and according to my DS, tasted awesome too!

That is good to know. The only reason we have never eaten at Ohana is that I am allergic to bananas, too and was concerned about the dessert. I know that I could just skip dessert, but I have a bit of a sweet tooth and it is my vacation after all.

It is interesting to see that there are other people out there as well that are allergic to bananas. I have always felt like a complete freak as I had never met anybody with the same allergy until I met my now mother in law for the first time, who is also allergic to bananas.

After reading all these posts, I'm thinking of giving 'Ohana a second chance. We were ignored and had a horrible experience. I've never even considered going back, but it sounds like a lot of people were treated really well. :confused3

This is so ironic because I was debating calling them to discuss this. We are going there June 5th for my ds 12 th birthday and he loves bananas. But my dd and dh are both allergic and my mom will be with us and hates bananas. Everyone looks at me like I am crazy when I say DD is allergic like it is not possible.

Should we call ahead or have it noted on the reservation or just wait and tell them when we arrive. I noted my allergy on the reservation because everything has onions in it but did not put the bananas on there because I figured we would just not order anything with them.

My son is allergic to some shellfish, tree nuts, and almost every fruit. My husband is allergic to all shellfish. I was worried about Ohana since the CM told me when I made ADR's that Ohana's would be the trickiest one. Let me tell you, the chef was wonderful! He came out and talked to our family, told us what we could eat and what we couldn't. My husband just had to stay away from the shrimp. But my son couldn't eat the bread (due to coconut) or the desert. The chef made him a special desert and even brought it out to him. It was a huge chocolate monstrosity! He truly made my son feel special instead of just different. We plan on 2 ADR's there next trip!
