Ohana when kids won't eat the meat

Our DGDs now accompany us on our WDW trips. :) They eat so little they can probably share a child's meal at most WDW eateries and it might not get finished.
On their first trip we took them to TH and not only did they not eat hardly anything, they freaked out over the characters. Lesson learned, until such time as they will eat more than a few bites of food and not freak out over the ginormous Goofy, the character meals and buffets are out. Besides the huge waste of money for the food, the kids have to sit there bored while everyone else goes back for additional helpings.

This is a good point. It can be really unpleasant when the kids are ready to leave after a few minutes and make sure you know it!

Haha!!! I love it like it's my favorite place and we are staying at Poly. I think maybe Kona for dinner and Ohana for breakfast?
I have only done kona for breakfast and am doing Ohana for breakfast this trip. Many say go to kona for tonga toast. We were less than impressed. But other offerings were yummy and we enjoyed it.

Similar experience at Crystal Palace. Not worth it to us and no one really liked the food. We would rather spend the money on a table service dinner.

Has anyone ever experienced them just charging a kids meal price for them?

Oh, you mean the charge for an actual kid's meal, not the kid's price for AYCTE.

The servers don't watch what you're eating, they don't monitor it, so they couldn't possibly know if the kids were only eating pasta or if they were eating other things. The price for an AYCTE meal is the price.

Sometimes you just need to look at the big picture for character meals. Is *this* price worth it for everyone to dine there? I mean, I can't eat $47.93 (plus tip) worth of food at Tusker House (and we're vegetarian as well), but if I want access to their couscous and a few salads, that's the price I pay. If I want different salads and pasta, I go to Sweet Tomatoes and pay $12 instead. When DS was younger (kid price) we would look at that price for both me and DH, then the kid price, and figure out if it was all worth it for that meal. And yep, when DS was younger it was pretty much a large plate of mac&cheese at Tusker! Then he slowly started to eat the couscous, etc etc etc. But as his appetite got bigger mine got smaller, so Disney buffets aren't something we are doing right now.

The price is the price. As long as they are fed and happy, what does it matter if they eat meat or mac and cheese? IF it is an experience you want to do as a family. If not, or if there is nothing they can eat there and you have to feed them elsewhere afterwards that's one thing. But as long as you are fed as a family don't think of it as $75 for mac and cheese. If you are ok with $75 for "dinner" it's "dinner" whether it is meat or mac and cheese. If you're not ok with $75 for "dinner" then go somewhere where it costs less.

Disney prices are horrific no matter how you slice it. It's just a matter of degree. I just budget for the vacation and don't overly focus on any one expense.

This is exactly how I approach Disney Dining. Do I eat $40 worth of food at Ohana or any of their buffets? Definitely not. Do I enjoy my meal and the overall experience and feel it's worth my $40? Definitely. Sure my kid might eat mac 'n cheese at one meal and a filet at another, but I don't stress over how much each cost as long as he doesn't leave the place hungry.

I would never skip a restaurant we love because I don't think my child is eating their money's worth.
