O'hana' w/no rice or green beans, really considering cancelling..

I was a little nervous, hearing about the changes, but ate there the 27th, and thought it was a big improvement. I thought the beans were rubbery and the rice clumpy. The potatoes were great, and the veggies better than the beans. I thought it was much more worth our money this time around...even though I liked it before. Ohh..and the dessert..much better IMO than the carmel/pineapple. They even brough hubby and I an extra bowl each of the delicious ice cream by itself.

I just ate there last week and thought the changes to the menu were a definate positive. The potato dish was awesome, and the vbeggies were very good. The bread pudding was great. Definately, all three dishes were better than what they replaced. That being said, I thought the service and quality of meat on the skewers was below what I remembered. The meat was still very good, just seemed drier than I remembered.

Hmmmm. We celebrated our 25th at 'Ohana last May as it's always been a favorite restaurant. We'll probably try it again soon, but I confess that the changes don't fill me with warm fuzzies & pixie dust.

It's interesting to note that this situation with 'Ohana is one that Disney has to deal with all over WDW - how to balance making changes with keeping old favorites. I for one was terribly disappointed when they got rid of Mr. Toad in MK, but I love Philharmagic! Remember, too, that 'Ohana wasn't alway 'Ohana - it started life as the Papeette Bay Verandah (and I ate there!)

Just ate there tonight. We got to WDW today. The food at Ohana was very good. The only think I really didnt' like was the sausage because it was bland. The rest was great.

We ate there for the first time in October. It was very good. :goodvibes The salad was so great I ask for the recipe for the dressing. The sticky wings were great. The potatoes were very good, and we liked the veggies. The meat was good, a little on the dry side on the first serving, but the second time they came around it was so juicy and tender. DH insisted I taste it. We will certainly be going back on our next visit. It is busy and noisy, but so much fun.

Don't cancel your ADR's because of the change in the menu - the changes are very good. Here's some pictures for you that I took in Sept 2005.

Don't pass up on the bread pudding. Yummy.... :goodvibes

The bread pudding was very good and my favorite meat was the turkey. I usually prefer steak but the turkey was better. Also, if you like fruity, rum drinks, try the Lapu Lapu. My DH and I split one. They're strong. I thought the salad dressing was great and so were the chicken wings. The potatoes were very good too, definite cheesy taste. I loved the stir fry veggies. We love snow peas so that was good. They brought each course out, and left them til we were done eating and we had more than enough to eat. I had one piece of each meat, no shrimp and the rest of the meal and we were stuffed. It's a great deal for $24.99/person.

We have eaten there since the changes and love it. While we miss some of the items, the new food is just as good to us. Our favorite is the new bread pudding desert. We wound up with three servings of it after dinner, had we known how good it was we might have scaled back a little on the dinner part of it.

We ate there in Sept and really liked the new menu, but I just realized something. We didn't get the stir fried vegetables. I just went to look at my pictures and then called my D-I-L to make sure. I guess our waitress forgot them. Oh well, I'll be eaing there again Dec 14th with my mom, so I'll get to try them then.

Anyway my family really liked the new menu. I had called several days before, because my son is allergic to coconut, so couldn't have the new bread pudding. I left a message with our ADR time just asking that he be allowed another dessert. I was very surprised the next day when chef Michael called me back and told me that he would handle it and to just ask to speak to the chef on duty when we arrived and my son would be offered one of five desserts. I told him we didn't want them to go to any trouble and if they had any of the pineapple with caramel sauce that would be fine. I told the waitress when we arrived, she went to get a chef, but returned a moment later to tell us chef Michael had already taken care of it and the pineapple/caramel sauce was waiting for my son whenever he wanted it. Excellent service!

We'd never eaten there prior to the menu change, but we certainly loved the stir-fry vegetables and the scallopped potatoes! Of course, these were the sides and I cared more for the meats than the sides...

We were just there (7 adults) on 10/27 and everyone loved 'Ohana.

I was concerned about the changes (DH and I have eaten there several times previously), but everything was wonderful! I adored the shrimp wontons and was devastated to see them go, but I was amazed at how much I appreciated the rest of the meal when I had not already stuffed myself with wontons!

The potatoes and bread pudding were to die for.

Is there coconut in the bread pudding? I didn't realize that. Is it in the bread part or the sauce? I've been really looking forward to trying it, but I don't eat coconut at all. If it's in the bread, I guess I can ask for the bananas foster sauce with ice cream.

My DH Hates onions/garlic....are the potatoes cooked with either? Can you get them plain and what are the stir fried vegetables? onions and garlic too? We have AR there and I might have to cancel if there is nothing he can eat. He is a pain in the you know where. :rotfl2:
