hi there foodies. trying to make a decision btwn these 2 restaurants. there are several children in our party and several vegetarians as well. seems like ohana would be fun for the kids, but i am concerned about picky eaters (children and vegetarians). i have read that you can request a vegetarian option at almost any disney restaurant. would love to eat dinner at the poly one night. help!!!

I believe that there are vegetarian options everywhere.

I would suggest calling Ohana directly to speak with someone about menu selections for vegetarians. To me I think it'd be the more fun of the two.

Kona over 'Ohana HANDS DOWN! Kona was the best meal of our trip. 'Ohana might have more entertainment for kids, but the food at Kona is better by miles.

There is definitely more going on at Ohanas that will keep the kids occupied. Konas is very good for breakfast, love the Tonga Toast.
The chefs are usually very understanding with guest who have special needs so I would not worry about that.

While Disney promotes to accomodate special dietary needs..Ohana is a meal focused on meats. We have dined at each of these restaurants for a very long time...and to us Ohana ..just isn't Ohana anymore. For us Kona is the only choice between these two dining options.

We have eaten at both and they are very different experiences. We loved both.
Kona is quieter and the food is delicious. There is definitely less for the kids to do there.
'Ohana is lots of fun and will keep the kids entertained. They have hula hoops and coconut races etc and it is lots of fun. The food is very good. I do not know about the choices for vegetarians, as 3 of the skewars are meat and one is shrimp.
We were seated at a window table and as a bonus we had a great view of Wishes over the Castle and also the Electric Water Pageant on the lake.
Have a Great Trip.

thanks everyone! seems like a perfect solution would be to have kona food and the ohana experience and view;)

the selfish side of me says kona (bc of the food choices) but the mom may lean toward ohana. will have to get in touch with someone over at ohana to see what they can provide for vegetarians.

watching the snow outside our window and dreaming of disney:cold:

We have dined at 'Ohana for years & have been to Kona twice. I absolutely LOVE Kona b/c of the food, but every year my family outvotes me and chooses 'Ohana over Kona if we are only going to one Poly restaurant. One thing I can definitely recommend is speaking to TJ, a chef over at 'Ohana, to find out about the Vegetarian options. He is most knowledgeable and EXTREMELY helpful. He used to be at Boma (AKL) and has always been great to us....went out of his way to help my son w/ peanut allergies. He will do everything possible to ensure that your visit is worth your while. Good luck with your decision....both are really great.
