O'hana twilight feast vs eating in restaurant

I am trying to decide for an upcoming trip if I want to order room service O'hana or get ADR for the restaurant. Am I giving up a lot by going the room service option? Is the ambience, etc, of the restaurant worth going that route over room service? Also, if I go with room service, it will be me, DH, and DD 12. Should I go with one adult and one child's, or 2 adults(since I have heard how much food is included!)? Thanks!

Order 1 adult + 1 child, unless your spouse is a power-eater.

It's debatable on the ambiance. There is also an ambiance to "sitting on your balcony eating the food" that is enjoyable. It is a different enjoyable.

We will also have a 1 yr old with us and we will do breakfast one day for the characters, so I am thinking since we will have already seen or will be seeing the actual restaurant, we will probably go for the room service. Thanks!

The restaurant at dinner is very different ambiance than at breakfast. There is singing and games for the kids and other entertainment.
Oliver Green of the DIS did a review of the room service feast and concluded, while good it was not as good as eating in the restaurant. It was not the same experience. In addition, the food was on the cold side.
I would choose the restaurant.
Have Fun

Of course it's not the same experience!

It's a different experience!

The question is if the restaurant experience (the wait, the noise, the refills, the dancing, etc.) is critical to one's enjoyment, or if someone else might find "sitting on balcony barefoot eating in the quiet" to be pretty awesome. It's a question I think each person needs to ask of themself. There are merits to both angles.

I have done the 'Ohana room service feast twice, once last September with myself (mom) and three college girls. We ordered for three and had enough food leftover that we had the rest at midnight after returning from the Halloween Party. The lounge CM's even packed our bread pudding and banana sauce up for the drive home as we didn't touch it. In March my younger daughter (19) and I were there and did it again, that time ordered 1 adult and 1 child and still enough food for midnight leftovers. What I enjoy the most is knowing that we have those leftovers for later

We enjoyed O'hana. The food was DS favourite. It's good to know we can have it in peace if, either, we can't get an ADR OR he, as a child with ASD is having an overwhelming day and needs a quiet, but enjoyable dinner. We are booked lagoon view. It's even POSSIBLE we could order it and watch the fireworks depending on actual room assignment.

I considered this as well as I am staying at the Poly and I have to agree with @Hopefully and the review cited. I have read the following negatives/tips:
1) ask them to not put a cellophane wrapper on top of the potstickers and wings, they will become mushy instead of crispy
2) if you get a bad piece of meat, there is no opportunity to ask for a replacement (and with 'Ohana it DOES sometimes happen and can be hit and miss even from one skewer to the next)
3) if you favor one kind of meat over another or shrimp or something there is no opportunity to get more of what you like (if you know going in you could ask about subs but no guarantees)
4) there is no ice cream served with the bread pudding (you can order it separately though, at additional cost).
5) ask them to not put cellphone on top of the bread pudding because it condenses as it cools and becomes mushy/watery in texture on the top (you can probably just pat it off or uncover it right when it gets to the room)
6) since everything is brought at once, the things you'd normally eat later in the meal (like the bread pudding) will be cold by the time you get to them (if you have a villa you can throw it in the microwave for a few seconds which may be what they do in the restaurant too anyway)

seemed like overall a better idea to eat in the restaurant than in your room from what I've gathered. If I wanted it and I could not get an ADR I'd do the room service keeping those things in mind. Leftovers is a big plus :)

One other possible consideration is I assume since it is room service, it will be 2TS credits per order, whereas if you eat in the restaurant it's only 1 TS credit per person.

I appreciate all the insights and tips! @Lisa F, thank you for the tips in helping us choose. I will give my DH the pros and cons and see which way he leans!

the pros of course are that you get to eat it in the luxury and peace and quiet of your room. I really considered doing it but the lure of the full experience got me. Nothing is EVER as good delivered as fresh but that doesn't stop me from getting chinese delivery when I feel like staying in in my pajamas!

We first did it in September because the girls and I were on a strict time schedule, and had the Halloween Party the evening we checked in. It was nice to be able to eat while getting into costumes, doing makeup etc.

I have ADR for Halloween too....we've never been to Ohana and wanted something fun, but my kids eat nothing and this trip DS will be 3, so no more sharing! Decisions decisions!! I do enjoy eating on my balcony or by the pool so we shall see.
