Ohana Question

Can anyone tell me if you have to sit with other people at Ohanas or do you just sit with your family.

In the Birbaum book it says it is a family style restaurant. Not sure what that means.

I've never been there, but typically family style refers to the way the food is served- on large platters that you all take food from. I may be wrong though.

We got a table for two there so they can accomodate any size family.

Family style usually means that you don't order off a menu the food is brought to you and you pick and choose what you want. Often that is off of platters (like at LTT) but at "Ohana they bring the skewers of meat and you just tell them which ones you want and how many. It is a great place for dinner.

It means it's not a buffet, the food is brought to your table. No menu, all meals are the same. Each family has there own table.

You'll sit with just your family, like any regular restaurant.

When you first sit down, they'll bring you some plates and a huge lazy susan (rotating) platter that has bowls of yummy chicken wings, salad, green beans, shrimp & vegetable wontons, and fried rice. That's your appetizer platter. They'll bring you refills of any of those items for as long as you like (I think we had 3 or 4 bowls of the chicken wings)

Then they'll start bringing over these huge skewers ( like 4 ft long) of various meats - turkey, beef steak, roasted pork, and grilled shrimp that you'll see them roasting over an open flame when you walk into the restaurant. The server takes as much meat as you want off the skewer and puts it on your plate, then moves on to the next person. They keep bringing them and bringing them till you're bursting at the seams.

You can also have desserts and fancy tropical drinks if you like, but those are extra cost. You can see them here: http://allearsnet.com/menu/menu_oh.htm By the way, the Hawaiian shave ice is served in a kids sand pail, complete with shovel!

All the while this is going on, there's singing, games for the kids (hula hoop contests, sweep the coconut races, etc).

This is absolutely our favorite place in all of Disney World to eat. You'll love it!
